We are Jack Linda and Riki from Houston departing 7/28/13 on HAL Oostrdam. Not familiar with Seattle. Flying in early afternoon on Friday 7/26 or Saturday 7/27.

Need suggestions on where to stay.....at airport?, downtown? and how to get around and to the dock.

Understand there is a Festival that weekend.....worth a visit?

Any help is appreciated.

Last June, we stayed at the Mayflower Park Hotel (for our HAL Amsterdam cruise). We selected the Mayflower Park Hotel because it is right next door to the light rail system, which runs to and from SeaTac airport. We also took the light rail down to Safeco field to see a Mariners game.

Last year the hotel offered a pre or post cruise package which included a full breakfast at their restaurant and a shuttle to the pier. We stayed at the hotel both pre and post cruise. I don't know if the hotel will be offering the cruise package this year.

We arrived back at the hotel post cruise around 10am and our room was ready. Due to us leaving the next morning for the airport very early, they were kind enough to let us use our breakfast voucher for the morning we arrived back at the hotel. The staff was fantastic.

That's the beginning of Seafair's big week. The biggest events (hydroplane races on Lake Washington, and an air show featuring the Blue Angels) are the following weekend, but the Torchlight Parade through downtown is Saturday night 7/27. If that appeals, you might want to stay downtown so it's easy to get there. Reserve your hotel early if you want to be downtown--Seafair events draw a lot of people.

to give you an easy overview of Seattle and cruising from there you may wish to look at

tripadvisor.com seattle forum. Look on top right and you will see lots of info that will orient you to the city. I took the OOsterdam last yr to Alaska. I went in May which was way too early but its a nice cruise.
