coffee39 Posted January 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2013 We have booked a b2b Vancouver/Anchorage cruise. I am wondering about going into Anchorage for the day. What would it cost from Seward to Anchorage and what type of transportation is available? Should we go to Anchorage or is there something special in Seward for us to do for the day. Do we have to get off the ship if we have the same room booked for the second cruise?
mapleleaves Posted January 6, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2013 Anchorage is about a 2 1/2 hr drive from Seward. You could rent a car from the day ... Hertz is the only vendor in town. The Alaska Railroad has train service but there's only one departure a day so it doesn't work as a day trip. The Park Connection Bus doesn't either. There's a lot to see and do during the drive if you're interested in driving. http://alaska.org/driving/portage-valley-whittier-spur-drive.htm Seward is a nice harbor town, very small. You could easily spend the day there. Exit Glacier is about 12 miles from town.... do a ranger-led walk on the trail or go self guided. You wouldn't need a car ... Exit Glacier Guides has a $10 shuttle to the glacier, and the SeaLife Park is a stop on the free shuttle. Or if you enjoy walking, there's a nice trail that runs along the waterfront from the harbor into town where Sealife Park is ... about 1 1/2 miles to walk. For other info on Seward, visit the town's web site. http://seward.com
