Putterdude Posted March 23, 2014 #26 Share Posted March 23, 2014 Yes, we stayed there in early January for two nights pre-cruise, we got it for $149 p/n on Hotwire. It's close to Lauderdale by the Sea, a couple of great restaurants like Nick's and the Greek Islands and of course it is on the beach. However the hotel is very dated, not very clean, the staff not very friendly and while our impression was that while it was great for families wanting a few days on the beach, it was not a place we would care to stay again. Our cab fare from FLL was about $60 and the shuttle to Port Everglades was $35 for two of us. Next year we will bite the bullet and stay in the 17th St. corridor like we normally do and be money ahead.
brunello22 Posted March 25, 2014 #27 Share Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) Right next door to Ocean Sky is the Ocean Manor hotel (another dump - featured on Hotel Impossible twice ... 'nuf said!). Bamboo Tiki Bar is located in between hotels ... you can have drinks and food there, but it is nothing special. Tokyo Blue is a very good and very expensive sushi restaurant inside Ocean Manor. There is a Winn Dixie (groceries) and CVS Pharmacy a 1/2 block away and lots of restaurants. Best restaurants in my opinion are Greek Islands (south of the hotel) and Basilic Vietnamese Grill (Lauderdale by the Sea). If you like live music, there are a few places locals frequent on 33rd Street (south of hotel) ... 33rd Street Wine Bar, Blue Jean Blues, and a few others. Lauderdale by the Sea has a lot going on in the evenings as well. Edited March 25, 2014 by brunello22
