handp Posted January 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2013 We are going on a cruise on Celebrity Solstice which sails from Sydney to Cairns and return. What is the policy on Duty free alcohol & goods on this sort of cruise? Is it really counted as "Australian waters"? (therefore no duty free allowed) Or on board will they have a Duty Free shop from which we can purchase duty free alcohol & goods to take off the ship when we disembark? BTW I have read the board for bringing on wine for cabin consumption, which was very interesting!!
bobhsv Posted January 7, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2013 If the ship goes to Willis Island, it is classified as duty free. If so, then the duty free shops will be open. You will get a paper, with prices listed. If you purchase duty free goods before sailing ie electrical etc, then you have to declare them (still boxed and with full receipt), before boarding, and the duty free payment will be forwarded to you. bobhsv Posted January 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2013 one thing thanks . My pleasure. It is usually advertised as 'Willis Island scenic cruising', when in fact it actually is the spot where ships enter international waters, so the duty free can occur/be legal. Most ships head out there. Re the duty free before boarding in Sydney....you may have to ask, as the desk is prone to move at times, but is always before going through customs.
