Question for Murray/Yukon...BQ told me to ask you!

Hi Murray/Yukon,

 

BQ said you might be able to give me some suggestions for biking in Skagway, and/or Ketchikan...Been to both places a couple of times before but have yet to do any biking...we're hiking in Juneau...thanks for the help! Stephanie

The biking in Skagway is decent, but there's no single place to go. The longest route is along Hwy 98 to the Dyea turnoff, then go along that road until you get to the gravel/construction. It's not very bike-friendly past that. Biking up to the Pioneer Cemetery is also good, as is the road up the Skagway River (a half-mile past the Dyea Road). None of these routes are very long, but they're enough to get the blood moving. The best biking requires that you rent a van and take the bikes to the White Pass Summit - bike north to Fraser from there, through spectacular rolling country. I haven't had a chance to look at Ketchikan in any detail, but it looks like there might be good biking to the north and south of town (or even the east if you like steep hills).
