florida lover Posted January 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Cruise purchased Jan. 3rd, cruise leaves Feb. 23rd, we have some pre existing medical conditions that could cause one of us to have to cancel our cruise. What kind of travel insurance do we need to purchase to get good coverage? Thank you!
sirwired Posted January 10, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2013 At the least, you need a 3rd-party policy that offers a pre-ex waiver. Most of the major ones (TravelGuard, TravelEx and CSA) do with most of their policies in most states, as long as certain conditions are met, which vary by policy. (For instance, a common condition is that you insure the entire pre-paid amount of your trip.) Buying your insurance soon (within the next few days) will ensure your access to these waivers. Depending on the condition and your existing medical coverage (some covers international travel, some doesn't), you may also need generous medical payment coverage. You also want decent medevac coverage, and most 3rd-party policies provide this by default.

What kind of travel insurance do we need to purchase to get good coverage? Thank you! Since probably 95% of the major insurers will cover pre-existing conditions for you now (you're too late for CSA) I'd try to see what other risks you might have that need covering. For example, some are much better than others if your boss takes your vacation time away.
