I just booked my cruise and spoke with someone who gave me her 5 digit ext number. Not sure if she is a PVP or not and what is the difference between a PVP and whoever answers the phone when you call to book a cruise? Is it bette to have a PVP?

My personal experience is they don't do much more than book your cruise. They generate automated emails after the booking. I booked two cruises last year and cancelled one months before the sailing. I got emails wishing me Bon Voyage & Welcome home on the cruise we cancelled. The other cruise is for later this year. Seriously, I can't see the benefit of using a PVP over booking directly online. I would book with a travel agent if there were any perks, onboard credits or reduced rates, but the new Carnival fee structure and rules for TA's do not allow this. Also, if you do want to call Carnival directly for a rate adjustment or an urgent matter you can't if you booked through a TA.

We are very fortunate to have found a great PVP when we booked our first cruise back in Jan of 2010. He is a true professional and very personable. He always guides us as to the best way to book to get more bang- for- our- buck, ie; Past Guest, Military etc... and also has access to many of the cabins that do not show up on the Carnival booking site.

Being first time cruisers, he not only gave us some great advice but actually got us on a 7 day on Legend with mid-ship balcony for less than our original plan of a 5 day on the Inspiration. He returns e-mails, and phone calls within the day and even on weekends, checks his e-mails and voice mail. He had also helped up change our honeymoon cruise to a different sailing and ship when we had vacation time issues. It was done and changed within a 5 min phone call. For our upcoming cruise, I also had my eye on a certain inside cabin, that was across from our balcony cabin, it was originally booked but he kept checking and called me one day and told me it was open so I could change my son's inside to a cabin right across from us -vs- several cabins down the hall.

He just seems to go the extra mile and in turn we have been loyal to using him for our bookings.

:)

He is a wonderful asset to Carnival and I, personally, would not book any other way. JMHO

i have a great pvp, she has helped us out with quite a few things that have come up. It is great having someone to answer any question that pops up, no matter how trivial. I also have her on my fb so it is much easier to keep in contact. Actually i was just talking to her about booking our next cruise and she said there is "something coming up" the beginning of February :D

I just do the entire thing online. I don't see the reason to call OR have a PVP. I guess if your booking is "special" in some way, ie;, needing multiple cabins, etc, I guess I can see them being helpful. I just book it online. Easy Peasy!!!!:D:D

PVP = sales person. Main job is to direct you to the best possible choices that benefit Carnival while making you happy. After the cruise, their main job is to send you emails, and call you once in a while to sell you on a new cruise. They are customer retention specialist, disguised as your friend at Carnival. I go check a price on line, and seconds later while eating dinner, they are calling me.

I have a PVP. I have used her four times out of six cruises. The two I didn't use were a group cruise through Carnival. I really like her and I like the fact that she knows me. She is great at what she does and is very prompt at getting back with me. I will always use her when I book through Carnival. I like having that one person who I can get in touch with regarding my cruise.

We are really picky about cabin selection (thanks to so much helpful input on Cruise Critic!!) PVP can see the entire inventory, not just the 10 presented on the site.

Our PVP is really accessible. She has all our info available so we don't have to "reinvent the wheel" on every booking. She has a copy of DH's DD214 for military discount. She has taken our FCC info over the phone so I didn't have to mess with submitting it online. She will sit on the phone with me and very patiently go through cabin selection, categories and pricing options. Love her.

After booking my cruise through a travel agent I have someone call from Carnival asking if they could help me book etc. I told them I had already booked, but If I had other questions etc I would call back. Since then I have had 2 more calls, and no voicemail left. But, I received a "it was nice to speak to you" email.

After the third call, I replied to the email, but I was getting slightly annoyed!

Still looking forward to cruising, but hopefully no more calls!

Our pvp(personal vacation planner) is great. Helps find type of cabin we are looking for, adds suggestions re: under pool/lido deck, noisy, under dining room, cleaning all night, etc. always calls before and after cruise, if we book last minute handles future cruise certificate and shareholder info to make sure we get once. Calls with last minute deals and specials. She is great!
