Mayan Ruins Cozumel vs. Belize

I'm not aware of any Mayan ruins on Roatan. I've been there 3 times, and spent a week there in May, and never came across a mention of ruins there. Roatan is all about beaches, diving, and snorkeling; and that's OK by me...

Belize is another story entirely. Fabulous archeological sites. Beautiful jungles. Romantic beaches. Belize is very close to Guatamala, and they both boast spectacular sites.

Plan for sun time in Roatan, and exploration in Belize...

If you check the Belize board, you can find several reviews of Altun Ha, Lamanai, and Xunantunich (sp??). We've been to both Altun Ha and Lamanai, and enjoyed them both. Depending on how much time you want to devote to your ruins tour, there are advantages to all the different sites.

There is a tremendous Mayan ruins city on mainland Honduras (Copan), but I'm not aware of a setup that would allow for touring it while on a cruise stop. It's usually done as an overnight trip (though this might have changed).
