Thank you- this is awesome! I looked up the days we are in port and which other ships will be there. Now I'm going to look up the pax #s for those ships to get an idea of how many other cruise tourists will be in town those days. I'm such a nerd. :) The day we go to Skagway, we'll be the only ship.

You are not a nerd - you are an informed cruiser! Besides, I do the same thing. Sometimes, it helps me decide about prebooking an excursion or waiting til I get there.

I do the same thing. If you want a site to see the cruise ship info:

http://www.cruise-ships.com/cruiselines/

I use this site all the time when I am researching which ship to book. Click on cruise line (the link is that section), then the icon for the cruise line. Then I click on the link "in service", then scroll down to the ship you need the info for. If you click on the name of the ship, it will go to a new page with even more detailed info.

I even found an app to show you the ship info too:

https://itunes.apple.com/app/cruise-ships-by-nauticalcities/id415060490?mt=8

On our cruise we are the only ship in San Francisco (1st and last day of cruise), Glacier Bay, and Victoria (we get there in the am which will be nice.)

To give you some perspective of the berthing situation at Ketchikan, this photo was taken aboard a ship at berth one; the Carnival Spirit is in #2, the Norwegian Pearl is in #3, and the Princess ship (can't tell which one it is) is docked at berth #4. Very close together, and, unless you are mobility impaired or just don't like to walk, getting from #4 towards "downtown" (basically just beyond berth #2), it's a breeze!

I'll look to see if I've got similar photos of Juneau and Skagway...

Wow! How does this little town handle all the people from this many ships in port at once?

I'm curious, there are only going to be two ships in port on the day that our ship (the Island princess) will be docked in Juneau, but they still docked us at the Franklin st Dock which is the second farthest away and the other ship, at the Alaska steam dock which is the closest. Why wouldn't we have been able to dock closer? Is the Island princess too big or something?

Last year on my Rhapsody cruise we were the ONLY ship in port at Juneau and we were stuck at the AJ Dock. There has to be some kind of pecking order or something involved. There were a lot of upset passengers grumbling that the bus to take us to town charged money and that was probably on purpose.

This year the Zaandam is at the "Cruiseship Terminal" and I'm very excited to be right in town.

Just looked up the berths for my upcoming cruise and was surprised to see that the Star Princess is supposed to be at the ORE dock in Skagway on 7/23. On my 4 previous cruises to Alaska on Princess (Star/Golden) we have ALWAYS been at the RRA dock. I hope I don't forget where we parked and walk back to the wrong ship at the end of the day!

Thank you for the maps of the different ports of call. How do we find out which dock and pier a particular ship uses when in port? I have booked private excursions in Skagway & Ketchikan and it would be helpful to know where our ship would be located when in the various ports.

First, here are the berth codes:

http://www.claalaska.com/pdf/2010/BerthCodes.pdf

Here is the calendar for each port. It shows the date, which ships and the berth code. Then you can find the berth used on the map:

LOL .... hopefully no "auto-pilot" when they dock. Our dock for Juneau just got changed in the last couple of weeks to being the furthest out to being one closer. YEA!! It pays to recheck before you cruise.

Thank you for explanation!

I am alittle concerned as our ship Rhapsody is at the furthest dock in Juneau...I am on a scooter most of the time and am worried about the shuttles. Does anyone know if they are handicapped accessible? I do have a cane with a seat attached to stop and relieve my hip pain but that could make for a long walk from such a distance...

Thanks,

Kathy

Kathy, I don't know the answer to your question about the shuttle. You might also want to post the question here:

I did some e-mailing to White Pass Railway and Butchart Gardens, hope this info will be helpful to you also:
