PA Beachlovers Posted January 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2013 We will be in Nassau on our next cruise, we are there for a relatively short time and don't want to spend the money for Atlantis for the time we are there. What is there to do within walking distance of the port. Are there any bars, restaurants, or maybe a decent beach without people hounding you to buy something close to the dock? The port deposits you into the busy streets of Nassau. Teeming with bars, restuarants, beaches and tours. There's a ton of great information on this forum. Search for Junkanoo Beach, Sharkeys, Olives, Athena, Iguanas, Via Caffe People will be hounding you regardless.. it's a cruise dock..

bigboatrider Posted January 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2013 We sailed into Nassau last March, and having been there several times and felt like we had "been there, done that" (or what we would spend to do), I would've been fine staying on the ship. However, my DW convinced me to at least walk with her to the straw market. On the way through the customs building, a nice young man (not easily found in Nassau) coerced us into to trying the Scooter Rental, something that many Cruise Directors may advise against, and we had an absolute blast!! There's a lot more to that island than we ever imagined. So, if you're adventurous, a scooter ride may just be for you. We'll be back in a couple of weeks with some friends and we're already looking forward to the scooter ride. Just remember to drive on the other side! lol
bigboatrider Posted January 25, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2013 Geesh.. Scooter Rentals are a death warrant. We have serious and sometimes fatal accidents nearly every day... they are not insured and scooters are not maintained... and you'll end up paying thousands for your trip to the hospital. They won't let you leave without paying. Don't say noone ever warned you. Again, personal experience, and it was great. We've heard the "Death Warrant" BS for years, mainly from Carnival who isn't getting their "kickback" from the rental folks. That's why we didn't give them a second glance until last March. As for Serious and Fatal accidents every day, welcome to the real world, that's everywhere. I do however agree that there are some scooters that look to be worn pretty good, but most were relatively well kept. It is what it is.
