Random Discounts

My parents just booked the family for our annual cruise. We are sailing the Breeze in August. I had my mom forward me the bookings. We have 7 cabins. 6 of them are in the same category. All 6 in the same category have different prices. My cabin matches what is on Carnival's website at the past guest rate, but everyone else is cheaper.

 

My mom said the PVP told her that Carnival has a random lottery. They apply discounts to certain past guests at random, but do not tell the guests. If you happen to call and book a cruise while this discount is attached to your name, you get it. One person in my group got $300 off a cabin, another person $50 off, another person $150. None of them knew about these discounts. Apparently DH and I did not have these random discounts attached to either one of our names so our cabin was the regular past guest rate. ALso,the PVP said you only get it when you call Carnival and book through a PVP. Has anyone else heard of this?

News to me. I know Carnival has made changes to the pricing structure and I no longer see Pack-N-Go fares. Maybe they're trying to keep us confused. BTW; Mom would have gotten a free fare by booking an 8th cabin.

Carnival picks who they will offer special deals to. Not sure if it's the same thing, but it's funny she mentioned the same word yours mentioned.

Never heard of anything like this. Seems like it would cause hard feelings instead of good. BTW DW and I both have 100+ days on Carnival and have never got any mailings offering deals. In fact we never get anything. Even after requesting email deals we never got those until we got on our 3rd PVP. (the others left the company)

Never heard of this either. In fact our last and final PVP told us she could never give a discount to anyone, she would be fired....so who is generating this "lottery" for past guests....doesn't seem right. I hope someone from CCL is reading this and responds, would really like to know what this is all about.

We just booked 2 nights ago. My dh had a better rate than me, and I've cruised more. We always book a cabin in each of our own names and put the kids in one. Our PVP was a little surprised herself.

This just happened to us. I called to check on the price of a cruise and gave her my cruise #. Got the price and it was the same as the online quote. But then about half an hour later the PVP called back and told me she had run my husband's number and he qualified for a discount. She couldn't explain why and said there was no reason noted. We asked about the other couple that was going with us so she checked their sail #'s and neither of them qualified. No idea why. We are not big spenders on the ships so that is definitely not it.

My parents did get a casino discount because of my dad, but they knew about that discount since he got a flyer in the mail. The other discounts were completely random. When I book with just DH and I, I just book on the website. It definitely makes me want to book with a PVP in the future just in case I qualify for a random discount.

People do get discounts for being heavy gamblers but random discounts doesnt ring true true to me.

My brother in law had a $150 discount attached to his name. He has only cruised Carnival once 3 years ago and does not gamble. The PVP said it was from the random discount lottery.
