mom2gabriel Posted January 27, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2013 Need to book a stay near the port in New Orleans leaving on the Conquest in March. Does anyone know the area well enough to tell me the "area" name so I can do a search and find one close by? I also get a free night, 3-star stay with Hotwire since I booked with them if you know a good three star hotel.
JohninDC Posted January 27, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2013 You'll get better responses if you post this question on the Gulf Coast departure board: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=414 Check www.betterbidding.com for info on areas, hotel identities and bidding strategies. Good luck! :)

maplo Posted January 28, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 28, 2013 We have stayed at the Hilton RiverWalk twice and we loved it. Basically next door to the ship. We went to the Riverwalk and took pictures of our ship as it was disembarking and if there are ships there the day before, great place to watch them leave. If you have a room high enough facing the water you can watch it sail in too. Lots of things to do within walking distance.
Human Speedbump Posted January 28, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 28, 2013 This is the area closest to the port. This area basically encompasses everything across the street from the Convention Center and about 6 blocks deep. The cruise ship docks behind the Convention Center. I use Price-line in this area about 2 nights a month. I usually get the Residence Inn, the Courtyard ,or the Hyatt Place for around $55-60 per night. Any of the 3 star or above in this area should be OK.
rvsullivan Posted January 28, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 28, 2013 Downtown or the Convention Center will get you close to everything. We stay in either one every time and have been happy with both. Garden District start to get a little way out and French Quarter is loud and crowded. Enjoy!!
luvscruising2007 Posted January 28, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 28, 2013 It's been a while since I used Hotwire. Do you pay at the time you book and is it a refundable amount? Another question? Is that area, Downtown near the convention center, safe to walk around at night? Thanks for any info.
Human Speedbump Posted January 28, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 28, 2013 Hotwire gives you an area and a star level. You pay when You book and then they give you the name of the area. I was in this area on the 4th and 5th of January with my 14 year old son and we walked all the way to Jackson Square and then back down Bourbon Street and back to the Hyatt Place on Convention Center Blvd. We never felt unsafe at all. Most of this area is no longer warehouses anymore. The old buildings have been converted to condos and such.
