Norwegian Star - Transatlantic Miami to Copenhagen - What to do on sea days

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I just booked my first transatlantic cruise. I've never had to occupy myself for 6 whole days at sea. Two, yes... but 6? I assume that there are things to do, but I'd like a better idea of what NCL offers cruisers for that length of time. Thanks in advance.

On The Roll Call Section, there is a very active thread for this cruise. They have lots of things planned in addition to what will be listed in the "Freestyle Daily". Several people have already done TransAtlantic crossings and can give you an idea of what to expect. I hope you have a wonderful cruise.

What ship did you book and for what cruise? I am booked on the January 17, 2014 Maiden Voyage of The Getaway from Southampton, United Kingdom to Miami. Nine straight Sea Days-no ports of call. This is my idea of pure heaven.

You might want to look to see if there is a thread already for your cruise. The thread for The Star's April 2013 crossing has been going for more than a year.

I have been on 17 Norwegian cruises on 5 different ships. I would be happy to help if I can. My next cruise is on The Gem on May 11,2013.

If there is no roll call for this cruise, start your own rollcall. You will find many others for the cruise.

This is one reason I have not booked a transatlantic as my idea of pure heaven is sea day, laying the sun, reading, next to the pool. I can envision wind and cooler weather that would not fit my description of "pure heaven". But, that's just me.

I'd be curious to hear those that have done the transatlantic in the wintertime as I would entertain a transatlantic cruise but obviously am skeptical.

There is a Roll Call Thread for your cruise.

The the EPIC west-bound TA from Barcelona to Miami (via St. Thomas) in October is the one for you - we have been on two and both times we had glorious sunny and very warm weather + calm seas. We bought Posh passes and it was pure heaven there! I read 5 books during the crossing . Plenty to do on Epic and we were never bored.

Honest....I was just getting ready to post this same question as I was looking for this booking in 2014. I too love sea days but have never been on a ship longer than 3 sea days in a row. I'll check out the roll calls, but would be very interested in activities planned by NCL. Thanks

We have taken two November ta's and one in October. We are currently booked on the Star for October ta. We prefer those at that time of the year because it is a westbound cruise so time changes add an hour.

The weather is cool when leaving Europe but gets warm as the US is approached so IMO there are plenty of days warm enough for lounging by the pool.

Activities depend on the Cruise Director and his team. Trivia is always one of the daily activities sponsored by the ship.

When we were on the Sun ta in October 2010, some of the other activities were golf putting, wii bowling, shuffleboard, enrichment lectures, cooking demonstration, movies, line dancing lessons, karaoke, casino tournaments.

Sometimes there are craft lessons if someone is available.

I've been on The Star and I've been on a TA but I haven't combined both. From the experience with those two though I know that the Star actually has a lot of nooks and crannies where you can go an entertain yourself, such as the Red Lion Pub (with popcorn) and the somewhat hidden Library.

Having cruised on a transatlantic albeit on the Epic, I found that they're very aware of having plenty of Entertainment and activities. One of the main draws of a Transatlantic is having down time to enjoy the ship and catch up on rest as well as take full advantage of activities that you might not have a chance to with port intensive itineraries.

Someone posted a great review of their Spirit trip from NOLA to Copenhagen last year, if I can find it I will post it.

  • 1 year later...

Nice weather going to Miami the entire trip... 70's and sunny. Doing it again in October.

The northern routes can be cold and windy though... my friend sailed transatlantic to New York and had really bad weather up there.

get a spa pass for the entire trip. that way whether the weather is poor or great you still have a retreat to go to relax. take along good reading material. work out at the gym to start the day. there will be numerous activities each day in which you can participate. weather will be fine go start and by the time we hit ponta delgada it will start cooling off, so there should be six days of outdoor lounging weather, if it doesn't rain. after that we have two more ports to break up the sea days. my favorite days are sea day. sign up for the meet and greet, there will be plenty of ideas for you there. this will be our third ta in the last six years and looking forward to having a great time.
