MilliesMom Posted April 20, 2013 #51 Share Posted April 20, 2013 Our Full Cruise Review :D http://discoverbooktravel.blogspot.com/2012/11/alaska-cruise-trip-story-so-far.html We also are going to be docked at Pier 4 in Ketchikan. I see photos on your blog of the boardwalk. http://discoverbooktravel.blogspot.com/2012/12/day-3-diamond-princess-alaska-cruise-ketchikan-downtown.html Does the boardwalk go from downtown to pier 4 and if yes, about how far is it to walk? (I realize there is a shuttle service too).
tmitchell82 Posted April 20, 2013 #52 Share Posted April 20, 2013 What is the software that you used to do the Alaska video? It is great! Glad you enjoyed it. It was all put together in iMovie. It's about at the limits of what you can do with the current version. The key is to have a lot of footage and picture to work with. I took 2800 pictures and over 7 hours of video. The sequel is coming this summer......

epaul78 Posted May 5, 2013 #61 Share Posted May 5, 2013 Here’s some Alaska pictures from our Celebrity Millennium cruise from July 2011. http://s708.photobucket.com/user/epaul78/slideshow/Alaska%202011 Departing from Vancouver, British Columbia; Inside Passage (Cruising); Ketchikan, Alaska; Icy Strait Point, Alaska; Juneau, Alaska; Skagway, Alaska; Hubbard Glacier (Cruising); Seward, Alaska. Our ship was beautiful and we had an awesome vacation. This was our first cruise, and thanks to CC we were able to plan a great trip. We left from Vancouver (easy for us, since we live in Washington State) and we were there for the Canada Day celebrations. There was a lot to walk around and look at and many concerts and art shows going on too. First stop Ketchikan, it was cool and rainy. Good advice- bring a waterproof coat with a hood and waterproof shoes (we had hiking boots). The ship provided umbrellas. We bummed around, walking to the totem museum which was neat and the Bald Eagle / Salmon Hatchery which I would skip if we had it to do again. We also rode a crazy outdoor vertical elevator. Icy Strait Point (Hoonah) was my favorite port. We tendered in and wandered around, beachcombing and hiking along some trails. We had a very enjoyable bus ride to the top of the mountain with local narrative from a life-long island resident and then took the thrilling zip line back down. The best thing about this port of call is that it isn’t overrun with 5 other cruise ships and the tours and gift shops are operated by the local tribe. In Juneau we explored the Mendenhall Glacier via helicopter and ice climbing tour. That was a great adventure and well worth the money. We also walked to the statehouse and took a self guided tour and visited the Alaska State Museum. Skagway was completely overrun with 3 ships in port. The train seemed like a very expensive very touristy excursion to us, so we rented a car and enjoyed a self-guided exploration of the Yukon and got up close and personal with some local wildlife. Didn’t find much noteworthy in town, other than the post office where we could send some mail and souvenirs to our kids. Skagway felt like one big tourist trap to us, and getting out away from the town area made for a better Alaska experience. The Hubbard Glacier was beautiful and we witnessed calving. We saw a lot of wildlife as well. Onboard the Millenium we had the company of Naturalist Milosh who pointed out whales and seals and puffins and also gave excellent seminars about local geology and wildlife. He really made our Alaska expedition more enjoyable and we spent many hours with him in the observation lounge. We disembarked in Seward but didn’t stick around, instead we rented a car and drove to Soldotna for a few days of fishing the Keani River and also a float plane expedition for Sockeye. We stayed in a cabin and got to see more wildlife. We drove to Fairbanks and had about a half a day there before flying home to Seattle. We thought Alaska would be a once in a lifetime experience for us, but as it turns out we will be going again this summer with a work group! tommycha Posted May 6, 2013 #62 Share Posted May 6, 2013 Hi Eric and Melissa, Looks like u had a great time! We didn't cover Icy Straits point last year when we went on Diamond Princess. Looks like u made a good choice as less ships visit that port. :)
