After reading the reviews from Saphire beach we have decided to go there over magens bay..we are in port from 11-7pm and would like to do beach and paradise point. How far is paradise point from the port and if we went to the beach first could we get dropped off at the bottom of the skyride to go up or are we back tracking from the beach. We just want to experience going up and going down the skyride for the kids....and help would be great!

We just hire a car when in St Thomas. It is very easy to get to Sapphire Beach, and having your own car gives you the convenience of being able to go where and when you want. We usually drive over to Magens Bay later in the day when the crowds have dissipated so we can spend some time at this beautiful beach.

Last time we went to Sapphire Beach we thought the place very run down, and moved on quickly. Has anyone been recently? Has it improved?

Yes, that's our favorite itinerary. Just grab a safari taxi to Sapphire from the dock, if docked at Havensight it's $18pp roundtrip. Have the taxi drop you at the tram and ride that up to PP and enjoy the view and their Bailey's Bushwacker. It is a short walk back to the ship from the tram. If docked at Crown Bay the taxi to Sapphire will be a little more $22pp or so and you'll need to taxi from the tram back to port.

Definitely a great day, I wouldn't recommend renting a car for such a short day, we rent when staying on STT but it's a hassle on a shorter day.

Have a great day, we just stayed at Sapphire and it's as beautiful as ever!

[edit] you can rent a taxi by the hour very reasonably, and there are private drivers, we paid $50/couple but that was some time ago. Check vinow dot com for hourly taxi rates, but it's just so much easier to hop the next taxi.
