Coolers checked in luggage

Lots of people saying on these boards that they take coolers or cool bags as we call them in the UK!

Do you check them in or carry them on.

 

If you check them in are they the soft sided ones, are these sturdy enough to protect cans and water bottles?

 

Not keen on carrying cans around until we can get in cabin, especially if have my 2 bottles of wine.

 

Also anyone travelling from Southampton have experience of taking soda or beer on board?

We have travelled twice on one's from Southampton and you weren't permitted to bring any drink on board. If u get off a ship at port and bought a bottle of wine etc it was took of u and returned on ur last day. Not unless this has changed from last year.:)
