CCL Destiny w/airfare HELP

We are debating on going on a cruise out of San Juan on the Destiny next year sometime however we would need airfare from JAX Fl to there and find the airfare the cruiseline and/or online TA's charge is way high.

 

What has anyone done for airfare? Can you book just the cruise and find airfare cheaper on your own? Or is that a problem? We're thinking of flying into San Juan a day or 2 prior to the sail date just in case there is a problem. What do you guys think?

 

This is the 1st cruise we'll need airfare for...all others we've taken we could drive to.
