Cayo Levantado / Chair Question

For those who have recently been to Cayo Levantado Beach in D.R.:

Are all the lounge chairs on a first come- first serve basis?

Are there chair rentals? Did you have a hard time finding a chair with some shade?

We had absolutely no problem getting a chair. Yes its first come first served but there was plenty of chairs. It did start to get a tiny bit crowded as the day wore on but I still was able to see unused chairs. As you walk to the beach a guy gets you your chairs and puts them where you want them. There were some shade trees. We had a very relaxing time there.

We were not able to grab chairs as it was so crowded....we just returned to the ship on the next available tender boat. We won't be going there next month on our next cruise.

What time did you get there? We had no problem at around 9AM.

We took the excursion at the last minute so we didn't arrive until about 10:30, which may explain the crowd. There was only the Gem and a Seaborn ship in the port at the time. It was packed.

Is Cayo Levantado worth going to? How do you get there and how much does the transportation cost?

For those who don't enjoy beach time, what other sightseeing would you suggest?
