Taking a cruise from Seattle to Alaska in July. Would like to know if we reach to Seattle at night and are cruising the next day, should we choose a hotel that is near the port or a hotel that is near downtown? Which location is good?

The airport is about 15 miles south of downtown - but the port is near downtown on the waterfront. Any hotel in the downtown Seattle area is close to the dock. Shuttles will take you from the airport to a hotel, and a taxi will take you to the dock. If you get there a day early, you can walk over to the dock area to get an idea of how close you are. Also, you will have time to go to the Pikes Place Market and browse - fabulous place.

Have a fun cruise.

My husband and I arrived the day before our cruise around 9:00pm. We stayed at the Embassy Suites near the airport. They have a free shuttle to pick you up at the airport. You can get a good rate by booking directly on their website. The next day they called a towncar service for us that took us to the pier for 35.00 for up tp 4 people. We were able to check our bags pretty soon after we arrived, but since the line was so long to board the ship, we went to Pike Place and looked around a bit before going back to board, although the long line had become longer! I have heard they have improved on this since we took our cruise. Have fun!

Depending on the time that you get into the Seattle area. Everything in town closes about 5:00; there is Pike Place Market, Seattle Art Museum, and lots of great restaurants in the area. If you stay at the airport, there really is not too much to do. You can take a taxi from the airport for a flat rate of 25.00 (plus tip) a great website to get info on is http://www.nwsource.com you'll find out anything you want to know.

Enjoy your cruise.....
