Evenings in San Juan

Our ship, the Enchantment, will be in San Juan until 10PM when we visit in April. I'd like to hear some local jazz in a club near the pier. Anyone have any suggestions? I have heard that the police presence is strong while ships are in port. Any comment?

We have cruised out of San Juan twice and visited as a port stop once.

One of our favorite Caribbean places.

We have found the nightlife to be lively BUT not until around 10:30 or 11:00 !

We are more into salsa but you can check out the Nuyorican Cafe as they have both jazz and salsa bands play there. Again, they really don't get started until later tho.

As for safety - police presence - they are pretty much always around at night in the touristy OSJ area. We walked back to our hotel at 2 am and felt perfectly safe. Of course, use common sense and don't take dark back alleys as shortcuts and stay to the main well-lit streets. Don't flash a lot of $$ or wear expensive jewelry.

We sail at 10PM so night life will be limited. Have you been to Carli's Cafe?

Anyone know any places that start with good jazz around supper time?

Thank you for the suggestions!:D
