sailingawaysoon Posted February 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2013 Just curious how the weather was in New Orleans if you were cruising in January or February. Also, since the shops are closed for quite some time while sailing out, what time did the casino open? I read that it was open the first night, just curious if it was after the second dinner seating, or before. Lastly, was the muster drill done before you sailed out? I would think it is, but I believe I read in another thread that it was later. I appreciate your responses. Thanks!
fla jack Posted February 6, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2013 We are on the 03/02 sailing. I believe it takes 8-9 hours to reach the Gulf of Mexice. I would not expect any stores or casino to be open during that time. JMHO Jack

Weather - it was cooler than expected; in the 50s 2. Casino - it was open after our 8:30pm dinner seating (we were there around 10pm), not sure if it was open before. 3. Muster Drill was at 4pm before sailing. Enjoy your cruise! J
Rare MisterOJ2 Posted February 6, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2013 I've not yet cruised out of New Orleans on RCI - but I am in April. I have cruised out of there on Carnival though. One thing I found interesting WRT the casino is that it opened up waaaay before we were out in International waters. They had all the games going strong while we were still clearly on the Mississippi River.
sailingawaysoon Posted February 6, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted February 6, 2013 Thanks for your responses. I had read a review of a recent cruiser from the Navigator that said the casino opened in the evening fairly early, but wasn't sure if that was the case or not. Thanks again! According to the Cruise Compass from the Jan 12, 2013 sailing, on Day 1 the Casino opened at 6:00 PM. I do not understand how the casino can open if the ship is still in the state of Louisiana. Perhaps RC worked out a deal with the state? The onboard shops were closed all of Day 1. Muster drill was at 4:00 PM. The ship was scheduled to sail at 4:30 PM. The temperature was in the low 70's on our Jan 12 sailing. However, the typical high is in the low 60's, and 50's are certainly possible.
momof4_tn Posted February 6, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 6, 2013 We have cruise on Royal Caribbean out of New Orleans the past two years in January. First year, weather was great 60 degrees and sunny. Not warm enough for shorts, but you didn't need a jacket. This year it was barely 40 and drizzling. We had to bring coats and muster was a little chilly. On both cruises, the casino didn't open until very late (meaning we were in bed so after 10) and shops didn't open until first day at sea. On the last night, everything (shops and casino) closes at 8:00 p.m. Both times muster was done prior to leaving port usually around 4:00 p.m.
sailingawaysoon Posted February 7, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted February 7, 2013 I guess we'll see about the casino schedule once we are on board! Thanks again for your responses.

The only thing was our weather was in the mid/lower 50's and it was cloudy/chilly.
swscruiser Posted February 7, 2013 #10 Share Posted February 7, 2013 Have not been on RCCL for several years, but Carnival's casino and shops open about 30 min after sailing from N.O. Interesting there is difference. Keith
