CrusinCyndi Posted February 11, 2013 #151 Share Posted February 11, 2013 A "little" inconvenience? The ship is dead in the water and running on emergency power. They have asked all guests to stay in the public areas which means more than likely they have no AC, no running water in the cabins and no flushing toilets. Now add to the fact that the ship will more than likely be towed in which will take several days. Have you ever tried to sleep in a cabin with no AC? This will be more than a "little" inconvenience. Ask those who were on the Splendor when she had her engine room fire. Carnival is not being generous. They don't have a choice here. They are being pro-active as the media is going to eat Carnival up on this one. The media will remind the public of the Splendor incident. Also, I doubt the people on board are worried about gratuities at the moment. That's why I always sail with a balcony attached to my room
RuthlessBoss Posted February 11, 2013 #152 Share Posted February 11, 2013 You ARE kidding, RIGHT? Are you in any way concerned about Carnivals negligence concerning the Triumph over the last several months? Propulsion issues over and over and now THIS? I wonder how those 3000-odd paying passengers feel right now? Those that took their vacation time....their hard-earned money...for THIS?? I wonder how eager they are to book another CCL cruise....or ANY cruise for that matter? Only a matter of time before someone puts a CCL positive spin on this I suppose. Does anyone recall any of the threads with Splendor? There were some positive remarks from people who were there. (I mean beyond no lights, water etc) There were people giving good feedback on the staff, food etc.And many went on about using the benefit packages . Cruise4Music Posted February 11, 2013 #153 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Thanks! Since I will be on the Dream in a little over a month, I went straight to Google to find out and found that it was the Magic and not the Dream. lol Cruise Critic boards, as always, is long on opinion and all around garbage...and very short on facts. declansdad Posted February 11, 2013 #156 Share Posted February 11, 2013 I love Carnival. But I am deeply concerned. First Splendor now Triumph not to mention Dream that just hit a pier. All in one month. We are sailing with them next week. I hear lunch is gone in MDR. That they have cut back on allot of things. Could it be that Carnival has paid so much out for that ship last year that went down seeing that they own it? One ship is fine . You do not hear this on RCL or Norwegian having this bad luck. Sorry but Carnival should take care of the guests in a way. Some of the passengers could be loosing allot not being back in port. Does not sound like a good thing right now. We are definitely getting scared of our cruise next week. Seeing that we told wonderful things to the other five couples going about Carnival. Shame on people saying anything about what others are saying on here. It is a public site and everyone has the right to voice good or bad of their thoughts. That is why this is a public forum. Now if it happened to you I do not think all goo butterfly feelings would be happening. My husband & I could afford to be delay coming home. But some passenger's they save up for these trips. It does effect everyone. Aren't you doing the same thing?

dbogusch Posted February 11, 2013 #158 Share Posted February 11, 2013 These were summer of 2012, July to be exact. When the ship is just down the freeway and we've been platinum for a while I do remember. Okay, just pointing out this little notation under the pics - sorry if the info was wrong..just going by what it said: 208 photos, 1 video | 299 views items are from between 05 Aug 2011 & 09 Aug 2011. I really don't see how ANYTHING good comes from a cruise ship becoming stranded in the middle of the ocean. One that has had several months of propulsion issues that PROBABLY should have been addressed with finality. Yeah....staff CAN and often DO make the best of a bad situation. Lost vacation time can never be replaced.

Crusin6 Posted February 11, 2013 #163 Share Posted February 11, 2013 We are on our way to Galveston. What to do. ?? I hope we get credit for a cruise of our Choice. you will get a refund...that ship isn't going anywhere tomorrow. Why take a credit, get you cash back and book another cruise when you can, please don't let them hold your money as there is no need for that

declansdad Posted February 11, 2013 #165 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Sorry it was Magic last week in Cozumel... Here is a quote from another board about the incident with the Magic. AuntPinkie: We didn't sink! My husband and I were on deck 5 just above the area that hit the pier. Of course, my camera was in the cabin, so no photos. Sorry! A gust of wind ran the ship into the bumper on the corner of the dock. The bumper split and there was an awful crunch. The repairs were done while and we only left an hour late. The only guess that I have is she was using the cell towers of the ship that was dropping off supplies! during hurricaine sandy when everyone and i mean everyone around here had no power, the only guaranteed way was to text. This worked so well that our local municipalities are now encouraging everyone to check their texts on their good old basic cell phones before they waste precious battery time checking emails on their smart phones. The text bounced off a verizon or whomever satellite because the ship's tower was down so the text went thru the closest cell portal. They can't be too far from land I would think. seannyice81 Posted February 11, 2013 #168 Share Posted February 11, 2013 CARNIVAL TRIUMPH - Update February 10, 2013 – 7.30PM EST This morning the cruise ship Carnival Triumph experienced an engine room fire while the vessel was sailing approximately 150 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. The ship’s automatic fire extinguishing systems activated and the fire was contained to the aft engine room. At this time, the fire is fully extinguished. There were no casualties or injuries to guests or crew. All appropriate authorities including U.S. Coast Guard have been notified. The vessel is currently without propulsion and the ship is operating on emergency generator power. The ship's technical crew has determined the vessel will need to be towed to port. A tugboat is en route to the ship's location and will tow the vessel to Progreso, Mexico, which is the closest port to the ship’s current location. This will enable us to disembark guests and get them home as quickly as possible. The ship is expected to arrive in Progreso Wednesday afternoon and guests will be flown from there back to the U.S. There are 3,143 guests and 1,086 crew on board. Guests are being provided with food and refreshments. Another Carnival ship, the Carnival Elation, is currently on scene and transferring additional food and beverage provisions to the Carnival Triumph. We have contacted the designated emergency contacts for all guests presently on board Carnival Triumph. Concerned family and loved ones of guests and crew may call 888.290.5095 or 305.406.5534. All guests on the current Carnival Triumph voyage will receive a full refund of the cruise, along with transportation expenses. In addition, they will receive a future cruise credit equal to the amount paid for this voyage, as well as reimbursement of all shipboard purchases during the voyage, with the exception of gift shop and casino charges. The next two voyages of Carnival Triumph, scheduled to depart Monday, February 11 and Saturday, February 16 are being cancelled. Guests scheduled to sail on either of those voyages will receive a full refund, reimbursement for non-refundable travel expenses and a 25 percent discount on a future three to five-day cruise. Carnival is in contact with impacted guests to advise them of the situation. The current Carnival Triumph voyage departed Galveston, Texas on Thursday, February 7 and was scheduled to return on Monday, Feb. 11.
Almost Packed Posted February 11, 2013 #169 Share Posted February 11, 2013 I guess another reason to get insurance. One never knows what can happen :( I hope it gets fixed quickly and everyone can enjoy their hard earned vacations! Fingers crossed for all of you. Heaven forbid the cruiseline hold any responsibility in maintaining their fleet. I could understand your response had the OP been responsible for not being able to cruise, but for a passenger who did nothing wrong...nope. Carnival's fault, they should be held accountable. put the blame where it lies. customers should not have to cover the burden. the cruise line should...and especially if this is a repeat. Spaniel Lover Posted February 11, 2013 #172 Share Posted February 11, 2013 If you remember how things worked out after the Splendor fire in 2010, it took them MONTHS to get the ship repaired. So, those of you with upcoming cruises on the Triumph in the next couple of months need to pay close attention to this and keep all your options open. The latest statement from Carnival says that the onboard technical crew has indicated that the ship will have to be towed. So, that right there tells you that this fire had some serious consequences that can't be quickly and easily repaired.
Naomi John Posted February 11, 2013 #173 Share Posted February 11, 2013 I like to make Lemonade out of lemons. Just checked the weather for Merida, closest city to where the Triumph would be, no rain, high of 85 low of 70s for the next few days. No one injured. Getting supplies. A total refund, etc. I would again like to say I would rather be on the Triumph right now instead of Hattiesburg, MS. (I would like to say if anyone has family in this area, I am praying for them)

Contemplating my first trans Atlantic for the spring. Even looking at the legend.. what the heck do they do if something like this happens in the middle of the ocean? they tow you to The Azores or another ship comes to pick you up because there is no way they can tow a full ship to land with the pax on it without light, toilets etc. The geography just would not permit it so I would think they would come out with a ship that could take on the pax. won't be a luxury vessel that I can assure you. also, from what I have read here on cc, there are actually cargo ships that follow cruise ships around the globe that can replenish the ships with fresh stores that they wouldn't be able to get in some ports. a poster here seemed to know all about this process and explained it quite well about a year ago on CC. The current Carnival Triumph voyage departed Galveston, Texas on Thursday, February 7 and was scheduled to return on Monday, Feb. 11. Typical. They bury the big, new information at the bottom of the info they've already released. My sympathies to the cruisers on the next two sailings to have their vacation cancelled, it's never fun! For the cruisers on 2/16, at least they're not waiting until the last minute to cancel. For tomorrow's cruisers, there was really nothing they could do. For anyone booked on the Triumph in the next 4-6 weeks at least, I'd start thinking about potential alternate plans. :(. If my March cruise gets cancelled, I plan on trying to make the best of the situation and trying to convince DH to reschedule to an 8 day on the Breeze this summer. Best of luck to everyone affected by this mess right now, especially those right in the middle of it - literally!
