Accessible upgrade

We are booked in an EX balcony stateroom on an upcoming cruise. Obviously, we would probably refuse an upgrade to a Junior Suite if it is offered. What about an upgrade to an accessible suite? Has this ever happened to you or is it even a possibility? Cruising on Royal Caribbean BTW.

I'm a little confused about your question. Are you booked in an accessible balcony cabin and want an upgrade to an accessible suite that isn't a junior suite? If that is the case, you are out of luck. There are no accessible full suites on Explorer. There are only 2 junior suites that are accessible. The odds of being upgraded to one of those is very small. The JS cabins are the only accessible cabins with balconies that hold more than 2 people so they are in demand from families who want to share a single cabin and have a balcony.

I am not going to be on Explorer, will be on Mariner. And yes, was asking about if the upgrade to an EX Bacony was to a JS accessible? I am a Platinum member with Resort Condominiums International, my TA, and I get upgrades thru them also, but was inquiring about RCCL.

I saw the EX balcony and thought you meant a balcony cabin on the ship Explorer of the Seas. What is an EX balcony? I've never seen that term before. Mariner and Explorer have the same deck plans - only 2 accessible JS's, no full suites. Same problem with upgrades - very rare.

The only benefit to a JS over an accessible balcony (AX) is the JS gets double cruise points. There is no concierge access for JS cabins. According to the deck plans, JS cabin is 276 sq. feet and AX is 275 sq. ft. Both accessible JS cabins are connecting type so I wouldn't want one of them.

I don't know if being a platinum member with Resort Condominiums will help with an upgrade. I guess you can ask your TA about it. I'm a diamond plus member with Royal Caribbean's Crown & Anchor society and haven't ever received an upgrade from an accessible balcony to an accessible JS when I travel with my mom.

My parents had this happen on a Crystal Symphony repositioning cruise (NYC to London) once. Since there are only 4 wheelchair accessible cabins on this ship (mid-price and penthouse) and the ship was only about 1/2 full, they were offered a free upgrade and went from a mid-ship, mid-deck to a full penthouse, complete with butler. This was in the early 1990s. Not likely to happen again, and in their 34 other cruises, never happened on any other cruise for them.
