weliketocruise86 Posted February 13, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2013 Does anyone know the approximate taxi fare and travel time from The Salisbury to Kowloon Station ? Thank you
kuldalai Posted February 13, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2013 You could almost walk that distance . Taxis in Hong Kong are all RED, very reliable and oh so cheap . So hire taxis in Hong Kong till you are blue in the face and it will be the lowest cost taxi along with Singapore that you can hire in the world. Rare John Bull Posted February 13, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 13, 2013 Thanks, think we will take a taxi, Google maps says half hour walk, bit far with luggage. With luggage, only room for 2 in a regular taxi. You're only one block from a huge taxi rank at the Star Ferry terminal, but the hotel can call a taxi to the hotel for you - it'll add the equivalent of something under one USD to the fare. Hotel porter can tell the driver where you want to go or write it down - limited english spoken by the drivers. (so also keep a hotel card in your pocket for any taxi trips to the hotel). If you decide to take a taxi all the way to the airport, there's a bridge toll. The taxi will have auto-pay but it won't show on the meter, so you'll be charged that fairly small fee on top of the meter price. Perfectly normal, not a con-trick ;) Super hotel, best position & value in HK :) If you have a harbour-view room, tune your room radio to the station which plays the music for the 8pm laser show - makes a big difference JB :)

The second night we sleep on the ship so we could do both. What would you recommend ?

The second night we sleep on the ship so we could do both. What would you recommend ? Depends wherher the laser show can be seen from the ship, which you probably won't know til the day. And whether the music is broadcast on the ship. We were on our ship first evening, ideal viewing spot, but no music - and we didn't even know there was any! Thought the laser show was pretty unimpressive. By second night we'd learned of the broadcast commentary/music, watched & listened from our Salisbury room - and it all made sense. The hotel is in the heart of the mainland side, nearby are things to see & do before & after - so it's a good bet. JB :)

JB :) Apparently, the reason that the OP has to go to the Kowloon station is to pick up a shuttle to go to the new (but not quite finished) cruise terminal at Kai Tak. With the ship at that location, you may be able to see part of the laser show, but from a distance. My suggestion, if the weather is good, is to walk out to the waterfront on the first night, and enjoy the laser show with music there. You will be missing much of the atmosphere if you just view it from your hotel room.
