Discounts on upcoming cruises after Triumph?

Anyone think we'll see price drops on upcoming cruises due to the Triumph mess? We're about to pull the trigger on the Apr 13 sailing of the Liberty in the Eastern Caribbean. Not sure if we should go ahead since we're sort of last minute anyway, or wait a few more days/weeks.

Yes sure if you want to cruise on the "No Fun Ships" The fun is can you survive without food, water and no air conditioning for days! Maybe never seeing land again! Sounds like no fun to me??

I would actually expect price increases. Prices on all the lines are based on cabin availability and carnival just lost appox 30,000 berths per month until the Sunshine is ready and the Triumph comes back.

30,000 passengers x $400 pp + $12,000,000 a month in lost revenue plus on board revenue

I' ve been watching prices for a 5 day cruise out of NOLA for next month. I was not surprised at all when I checked the price a few minutes ago and the price has jumped up $50. Coincidence? I don't think so. I understand Carnival is a for profit business but it leaves a bad taste to know Carnival is trying to up their profits at the expense of the Triumph cruisers that have had their cruise cancelled.

The carnival rep that handled my transfer was very good to me. I was worried about losing my $250 OBC because I went from a Casino rate that got me the OBC because of first booking Early Saver. When I transferred over to the Elation the new rate I was given was Easy Saver. Once I mentioned that I had an OBC credit she immediately went in and had them give that back to me. So after the 25% discount I ended up w a $63 credit going back to my credit card. All in all, it was less painful than I thought it would be, but I also give credit to being on CC and being one of the first to hear about the cancellations. In fact the customer rep had just returned from lunch and hadn't even heard about them yet.

I just called because I was supposed to be on the Feb 25th sailing to try to get my booking transferred to New Orleans. When I finally got through I was told they weren't ready to do that yet and the only way I could book was to create a new booking and pay for it then they would refund my money from triumph and the money from the discount when the mass cancellations finally came through. The person I spoke to couldn't tell me when that would be. Did I just get unlucky with the customer service crapshoot or is it because I am still just a lowly red vifp?

Think of it this way, the cruise ship without propulsion news is far down on google/news, was only on the news here in chicago on sunday night, looks like they aren't getting a ton of bad publicity over it, and probably very few cancellations over it... why throw a discount there.

Curiousity has me though, when do your cruises leave that you looked up the price on? I checked the price for my room, and thought it went up too, until I relized the "from" priced cabins were sold out, IE it used to say suites from 819, now its from 879. But they sold the last junior suite, and the oceanview suite I got is still the same list price.

I think you got unlucky. It took an hour to get my money transferred over because I had used $900 in the old cruise dollars. But they were able to transfer everything over, including all the OBC I had. This was within an hour of the announcement.

And I would expect Magic and NOLA sailings to increase in price due to the quick reduction of inventory. So far it seems like everyone's booking the Magic or Elation as their replacement.

I would definitely try again. It probably took a good hr to do everything, but its done.

From someone who has never cruised on Carnival.

I live in the Houston area and it's all over the news here. In fact, we even get push notices on our cell phones from the local news stations. Lots of Houstonians on the ship right now so they keep interviewing their families.

I think this kind of thing impresses potential new customers the most. It has been in our paper and I have seen some jokes floating around the internet. With re-bookings it might not have an immediate impact but no cruise line likes this kind of press and it can impact bookings so we may see some price reductions a few months down the line.

Well, I don't know if it's due solely to the Triumph situation, slow bookings or cancellations, but, the total cost for my wife and mine's cruise on the Breeze in May has gone down about $150 total for us both over the last 2 days. I'm just waiting for the early saver "approval" to come back and we've got ourselves a decent little OBC stash.
