Virgin Gorda baths - crowd levels?

We're thinking about doing the excursion to the Baths on our upcoming March cruise, but noticed there will be 2 other larger cruise ships docked in the BVI on that day, and are concerned that the baths could be crowded with excursions from these other ships. It was a similar situation for those who were on the Feb 2nd sailing, so we're interested to know if you found the baths to be busy. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

When we were at Virgin Gorda on Feb 7, no cruise ships were in sight of our location. The Baths were 'busy', but not 'crowded'. There were obviously other organized tours in progress, but it was not apparent that they came from cruise ships. It is a good tour. You need to be ambulatory. There are stairs a hill and some crawling involved. We really liked it. Beautiful beach, very clear water, and they took us directly to Prickly Pear beach for the BBQ.

We did the Trafalger Falls and the hot springs at Dominica ... very good. Once again, not an easy go if not 'fully' ambulatory. Some people had trouble with the terrain. Beautiful short hikes involved, and the springs were really a pleasant 'soak'.

  • 4 weeks later...

We were on the March 2nd Wind Surf Cruise and did visit the Baths thru the ships tour. There apparently were other ships in port though not were we tendered from. Regarding the crowds, getting to the various beaches was crowded but bearable. However once inside the caves themselves the experience was just terrible. Beside it being terribly crowded there were people approaching from two different directions. There are many areas of the caves (narrow steps, small crevices which make passage by than one person impossible. This lead to major backups in realitively tight areas. Needless to say it became uncomfortable. The caves themselves were really neat, the crowds detracted from the whole experience to the point where we wished we hadn't done the tour.

P.S. In case this was not clear, we were on the Feb. 2 cruise. :)

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to post replies to my question :)

Your replies have confirmed our concern that the Baths will be busy, particularly as 2 large cruise ships are in Tortola on the day when this excursion is offered. So we've decided to skip the baths this time around.
