smoking area on Golden

Can anyone tell me if there is a smoking area outside of HC on the Golden? And, if so, is it on port or starboard side.

We have secured a room on port side on Aloha deck and I forgot till now that there may be an area to smoke that might be too close to our cabin.

Thanks...

I saw people smoking in the enclosed pool area on the port side. It is the second pool area forward from the HC.

On Ruby in December (and read another review recently from Sapphire), there was no smoking allowed around any pool area. On Ruby, smoking was limited to Tradewinds Bar, On the Sun deck oustide of Adagio/Sabitini's (no longer around aft pool), Speakeasy cigar lounge and one area on the Promenade deck outside of Club Fusion but sorry don't remember if port of starboard. There are no longer any smoking areas on the Lido deck.

Just got back from the Ruby and smoking is now not allowed at least 3 nights, starting at 6pm in the Casino. My husband and I do not smoke, but the couple we were traveling with do, so we saw first hand that smokers are getting squeesed into smaller and smaller areas. Our friends will not go on another cruise as even tho they followed the rules, other passingers would walk by holding their noses or waving their hands at the smoke. We had booked our cruise a year ago and at that time, smokers had not been condenced to these small areas, so we were surprised by the new rules. We also heard that if one is even suspected of smoking the "security people' will come to your cabin and search your garbage for cig butts. (we hope this is not true) . Princess should just consider making their line no smoking--then those that smoke can choose another line.

There are smoking areas on the Promenade Deck, Starboard Side. I just got off the Golden last week and many times noticed passengers and crew smoking as they were standing by wall mounted ash disposals in this location(s). Correct on the previous comment about enclosed pool off port side.

So does that mean that we will be able to smell the cig smoke on our Golden mid-ship Caribe starboard cabin balcony, when the ship is not moving. Since the smell & smoke rises. I am very sensitive to it. Will we be far enough away??

This can only be answered by someone who has been in a cabin in the same area as yours.

Do you mean the pool next to the cabins(neptune) or the pool next to the HC?(Calypso))

Thanks...

We were in A732 on the Golden in December and would often go out that back door, up to the Lido and into the Horizon that way, just about every day, at least once a day. I don't recall smelling any cigarettes (and I'm sensitive to that smell) in that area. If anyone was smoking around there, it wasn't at the times we were on that deck.

Of course, we had an inside so didn't smell anything in our cabin.

Just back from the Golden, smoking was allowed on the port side of neptune pool and adjacent to the toilets (between the pools), I am certain it was not allowed next to calypso pool as we sat in that area several times, I would have not done so if it had been a smoking area.

This is exactly why Princess will not do it. They would lose way too much revenue!

This is exactly why I have learned to use the restrooms at the spa instead of the pool deck restrooms. I can't bear to walk through that area. I've found that as the smoking areas have become more restricted, the amount of smoke in the allowed areas has become more concentrated, and I have to be even more careful to avoid them.

Just to clarify my post, we were very aft, so by the Terrace pool (at least whenever we went out there), there wasn't any smoking or stinky smell from cigarettes. But yes, if you're talking about cabins around in the 600s or 500s and you're below the Calypso on the port side, there may be smokers sitting at those tables. Not sure if the smell will go down as that's the enclosed area if the roof hasn't been retracted (I don't think it was ever open on our sailing).

The area by the Neptune pool is an open area, but it's away from the Horizon.

I was thinking more of the Promenade deck & that area that they can smoke. That is open & is below us. I would guess since we are on the Caribe deck it is far enough away.

It is far enough away. Promenade deck is deck 7 and Caribe is deck 10. The Promenade deck has a ceiling that holds the lifeboats and deflects any upward moving smoke. We are Caribe deck lovers and have had no problems.:D

Enjoy your cruise.

We were on the Ruby Princess a little over two weeks ago, Feb. 10-17. I just checked my patters to make sure, but the casino was non smoking only on two nights, Tuesday and Saturday.
