bobbismith Posted November 3, 2016 #2126 Share Posted November 3, 2016 Every cruise is different, some ports we don't care to get off the ship. When this is the case, I will get and use Cheers and it is more than worth it! A seven day cruise with three busy/good ports then I probably will not. We loved it for our three day cruise to Nassau. cat_in_cda Posted November 12, 2016 #2127 Share Posted November 12, 2016 We are going on a Hawaii cruise ....and I was reading the following with regards to Cheers .... Has anyone purchase Cheers and did this happen to you ? ---------- Applicable state and local taxes will be charged to the guest folio when this program is used within US waters. The tax is based on the state's tax structure and the cost of the individual drink purchased (not the daily program rate). For example: if the drink price is $5 and the tax is 10%, the guest's Sail & Sign card will be charged $0.50 for tax. This applies to all US ports (embarkation home ports and ports-of-call). A_Sea_Bugg Posted November 12, 2016 #2130 Share Posted November 12, 2016 I normally prepay drink package so no I don't get charged additional tax. It us all included in the price. However if you purchase it onboard technical yes you would be charged but... normally they wait to charge you after they get in international waters and there is no tax. As for individual drinks that you purchase. Not sure. Sent from my SM-G900P using Forums mobile app

diesteldorf Posted November 12, 2016 #2132 Share Posted November 12, 2016 Just had a couple questions: I like Grasshoppers once in awhile. At home, ice cream is often added to the Creme de menthe and creme de cacao. It doesn't matter to me either way, but does anyone know if Carnival stocks creme de menthe or even makes Grasshoppers? Obviously, the alchemy bar would not add ice cream, and that's OK. 2. I like bloody beers and also like Bloody Mary's made with beer instead of vodka. However, I've been to Mexican restaurants and they've also served micheladas. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelada Has anyone tried to get Carnival to make one? Esmeralda Kitty Posted November 12, 2016 #2133 Share Posted November 12, 2016 I ordered grasshoppers last December. They use heavy cream instead of ice cream. Addicting.

You also do not pay tax on the purchase of Cheers regardless of how/when you purchase. They are not going to tax you on the program and then tax you while in US ports on individual drinks. Even Carnival has not figured out a way to double tax you. :p

Were you able to order these only at certain bars? It would make sense that some of the bars would have cream for other drinks too--like White Russians. I've just never ordered anything on Carnival that uses cream, so I didn't know if they may only have this at certain bard. I could definitely see myself ordering a Kahlua and Cream and/or a Grasshopper after dinner.
threadcrapper Posted November 13, 2016 #2138 Share Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) Been lurking the boards for awhile and have a question. Do they serve Red Bull on board? Have read through the thread and searched around, some mentions they do and some that they only have Rockstar. We are thinking of doing Cheers, and while my wife drinks, I do not. If we could I would only get the package for her, and I would get the soda package. She's not a huge drinker, but she does like her wine and with the opportunity to have some higher shelf and specialty stuff, -- well -- we are on vacation. It wouldn't take much to justify the cost/break even for her. When I add on my cost, and not drinking alcohol, a few sodas, a few Red Bulls (don't like Rockstar), and a coffee or something, it wouldn't be a stretch for me to get close enough on cost to realize the savings on her bar tab. I found some menus that show Red Bull at $4.75, and comments that say its not on board. If it maters we are sailing the Splendor. Thanks to all for the great info Edited November 13, 2016 by threadcrapper

When I get the printout it has never had any charges for drinks or tax. Before we leave port I have already had at least 3 or 4. Hope my luck continues to hold. But I have found that all bars do not carry the same liquors. I like champagne with chambord. Only a few places have chambord. I would think they all have cream not sure about creme de mint or cocoa. Only if you elect to buy it on the second day. I have never done this, so not sure if you can do this in all ports or whatever....but, I buy it online, ahead of time at carnival.com > my cruise manager. It is then in effect as soon as your board the ship. Also: in some ports - due to local laws you are not able to buy first day. One of those ports in Galveston and possibly one is New York Edited November 13, 2016 by funinthesun1964

You should take that luck and go to the casino!! May I ask which ports you have departed from? Don't do casinos that much. I walk past a Casino in Vegas and put money down on craps once in awhile but that's it. As for ports. Fort Lauderdale, Long Beach, San Pedro, Singapore, Sidney and Seattle. Would love to do Mediterranean or any European but.. they are not available during my vacation time.

Thanks for your quick reply; We're leaving out of Ft Lauderdale and purchasing advance also, :) thanks again! We just got off Conquest out of Ft Lauderdale. We purchased Cheers in advance. Just an FYI, we were charged tax for our drinks prior to sail away. Also, was charged in the coffee bar for any flavored syrup added to a coffee drink (like $0.50). First time using Cheers and will definitely be getting it from now on.
