What is the roll of the "Port Agent"?

Oooopss....not looking forward to such kind of help.

Thanks for the reply.

Just to know, in what way will the Port Agent take care of us?

I've read that they can help make arrangements for you to travel to meet the ship at the next port. Once I read about how they chartered a small pilot boat to catch up to the cruise ship and got some tardy passengers on board that way. The agent is your point of contact with the cruise line company when you are at that port.

On our first cruise, our daughter (4 y.o.) passed out & had a small seizure the nite before we were calling on St. Maarten. Princess would not let us continue the cruise without an okay from a pediatrician. The port agent arranged transport to & from the hospital & arranged for us to see the doctor.

We wouldn't have been able to do all we had to do & make it back to the ship on time (early, actually) without the port agent's help.

All turned out well!

The port agent is the Liaison between the port/town and the ship....

Years ago we had an incident which landed one of us in the ER for x-rays and stitches....unable to walk and needed a wheelchair for the rest of the cruise...

Anyway, the Port Agent was on top of it, had someone pick us up at the Hospital, bring us back to the ship....where members of the crew were waiting for us...

The Port Agent did the foot work in town on behalf of the ship (and us) which has no real authority there....

Later, the ship's Dr. mentioned, with a laugh, that the Port Agent had better do the ships bidding....too much $$ at stake to make them angry....

I also remember the Port Agents Rep. in the middle of our discussions with the Hospital when we were discharged, as far as billing, etc...just to be sure we were not ripped off....
