Gambling on Hawaii

Hello,

I need to find a cruise without a casino. I was wondering if anyone had heard of a cruise line that sailed around of Hawaii and did not go into international waters? I know NCL has one ship, but we had a really bad experience with them and I will have a lot of resistance convincing my husband to sail on their boats again.

Thanks in advance!

PS: I am likely to cross post this with a general cruise question thread... Not sure how kosher that is.

I'm pretty sure Norwegian's Pride of America is your only non-casino option. I'm sorry to hear you had a poor experience in the past with NCL - any chance that was ship or itinerary specific and wouldn't be an issue this time?

The Pride of America(POA) is the ONLY cruise ship that stops in Hawaii and does not go into International Waters.... well for all practical purposes

Technically, past 12 miles from any of the islands is international waters, but the ship never calls at a foreign port.

No passport required for US passengers on the POA.

Aloha,

John

When I was working for NCL out in Hawaii, ALL ships were required to close their casinos while cruising the islands. If you get one of the 14 day cruises from the West Coast, the casino will be open during the transit days, but closed while between Hawaiian ports. This was at the direct sponsorship of the late Sen. Dan Innoyue.

Welcome to CC. NCL is the only house in town that doesn't have a casino. Furthermore there is no gambling in the State Of Hawaii not even bingo or lottery tickets.

We have sailed POA three times and POH once with no issues. Some people are hard to please we are not one of those.

I wonder how long ago your bad experience was with NCL? I was reluctant to sail on the POA due to poor reviews in the past, but did so as it was our only Hawaii cruise option at the time, due to vacation time restrictions. I must say we were extremely pleased with our POA cruise. NCL has gone way out there to correct former bad press and delivered a fine product with excellent service the entire 7 days.
