Tipping a Private Driver

4 of us are hiring a private driver to tour Florence and Pisa and Rome on another day.

The average per day is about 500 EU. What is a reasonable percent for a gratuity?

We just returned Sunday from our 7 night cruise and we hired different private drivers for Florence and Naples.

 

We loved our driver in Naples so we bought him lunch and tipped him 40 euro. Our driver in Florence was good, but because he could only drop us off we did all of the touring on our own, we tipped him 20 euro.

 

Not sure if we did the right thing in either case, but they both thanked us.

Usually it is 10% of the day's charge,but you ,of course, can adjust it up or down depending on how you feel the driver did.
