Tenerife - Ship excursions

We are on the April TA on Reflection. Celebrity lists 12 excursions for Tenerife. Has anyone done one on a previous trip? Recommendations? We like sightseeing, photography, and don't mind some walking/hiking.

Thanks.

We have been twice both on TA's. First we did the bus trip up the mountains and to the pyramids - the mountains were amazing the pyramids not so much but interesting.

Second we did the 4x4 - would not/never do that again - crowded 4 couples + driver into a covered jeep - terrible!

Go for one of the bus tours which takes you up the mountain, dress warm/layers as it gets quite cold (the elevation is really high) vs much warmer temps where you will dock.

Check out the Mt Teide Volcano tour, absolutely incredible views of the entire island, sometimes from above the cloud deck.

Our tour guide was awesome, info on the history, geology, climatology, socio-economics of the islands' culture. Would go again in a heartbeat.

We were in Tenerife two years ago on a TA. We did the northern island tour which was beautiful. I would suggestg that one. In fact, we are doing the TA from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale in November. The last stop before the 7 days sail to Fort Lauderdale is Tenerife. We will do the northern island tour again.

  • 2 weeks later...
we took the tram (not far from the port ) all the way to laguna. Semi-interesting ride

Was there much to see in La Laguna? How about the port...is there a city you can sightsee in? How did you get from the ship to the tram?

Thanks;)

Tenerife was our last stop on a westbound transatlantic so we stuck with a ship tour to Mt. Tiede. It was a lot of time on a bus but we got a couple of short stops along the way and ample time to wander around the park once we got there. Some others on our roll call took the 4x4 tour and said it was awful. We had a bad experience with one of those on another TA and didn't want to risk it again.

While we generally plan private tours, we felt that the Celebrity bus to Mt. Tiede was a good value and a pleasant day.

We were in Tenerefe last December and took the hop on hop off bus as we had taken tours before. It is a very pretty town. You can get off anytime to see whatever interests you. We did get off and went to El Corte Engles which is a huge department store that has a very large supermarket that is very interesting to walk around. We did buy some Spanish cheese and wine for our t/a back to the states. Have a good trip. Mary
