ldmcdon214 Posted February 28, 2013 #126 Share Posted February 28, 2013 They seem to keep changing the night of the "first" elegant night. Some previous cruisers stated that it was on Sunday night and now it it back to Monday? I am on the Easter cruise and am wondering if they will have the first elegant night on Sunday since it is Easter day. We are on the Easter cruise too and was wondering the same thing. That Monday is my sons 14th birthday, so I guess either night would be ok. :D

I'm fairly certain that it's Sunday on the Western as that's a sea day and Monday on the Eastern as they're in HMC on Sunday and Monday is the first sea day. navybaby1113 Posted February 28, 2013 Author #129 Share Posted February 28, 2013 Oh no!!! I'm dying to see how the 'new monstrosities' look in relation to the rest of the island. I took a picture of them, but sadly it didn't come out. They're really not that bad though. I think I would prefer the island without them, but if you go a little further down the beach, you don't really notice them.

When we sailed on the Liberty it was Eastern and the first formal night was on Sunday. We stopped in Nassau though, instead of HMC

Pellaz Posted March 1, 2013 #133 Share Posted March 1, 2013 Loving the review! The pics bring back such great memories since we sailed this itinerary last October! I'll be on another Conquest-class ship this October, but sadly, it won't have Guy's Burger Joint or the Blue Iguana Cantina. :( Gotta agree with some of the other posters here. For us, the service in the MDR was abysmal. We had early seating and the first night, we didn't get our deserts until 8pm...keep in mind that late seating started in less than fifteen minutes and the maitre'd came on the PA to scold the dining room staff. Drink refills and such were haphazard and nonexistent, too. In comparison to my previous cruises, on RCCL and on Carnival Imagination, it was reallly sub-par. Regarding St. Thomas, yes, there are some really poor-looking areas, but that's the case in most ports. I was very happy with the snuba excursion offered through Carnival because transportation to and from Coral World/Coki Beach was included, as was admission to both of those attractions, plus the snuba excursion itself...and it's contracted and arranged through Carnival, so there's no haggling over transportation. You DO see some gnarly slums, but you also see gorgeous vistas and a good slice of the island. Looking forward to your pics of HMC! On our sailing, we pulled up to the island, waited for an hour, and sadly sailed away. And I'd even booked a cabana..... *sigh*

pickles1942 Posted March 1, 2013 #135 Share Posted March 1, 2013 I am considering booking a cruise on the Liberty in January 2014 ... But a friend of mine just got off the ship two days ago and told me a few thing that has me rethinking about booking it now. :o She told me the service has gone down. The food is not that good. Said a few times in the MDR food at times seemed reheated from the night before. :( She said ST Thomas is a filthy island ... Any info that you can give me would be great. Thanks ;) We just got off the Liberty the same time as Navybaby and the staff throughout the ship were outstanding and we never had a bad meal. St Thomas is a beautiful island we went to Magens Bay (one of the top 10 beautiful beaches in the world) also went shopping and ate at a little outdoor cafe across from the market and the food was great. navybaby1113 Posted March 2, 2013 Author #139 Share Posted March 2, 2013 The tenders pull into what looks like a man-made channel. After you get off the boat, you’re in a little shopping area with a Welcome Center, some stores, and a place to purchase shore excursions. We are big fans of Geocaching, so I did some research before our trip and found that there are a good bit of caches at Half Moon Cay. So we loaded them all onto our GPS before we left the house and planned to set out to find at least a couple of them while we were on the island. The first cache that we decided to go for, since it looked like the easiest, was one by the pirate ship bar. This was an easy find! After we were done finding that cache, we took the nature trail to go find the others. There were two geocaches on the nature trail, so after we were done with those, we walked down the beach a little ways to find the last two on the island. We met another couple who worked with us to find the remaining two. Once we found the last caches, we decided to hang out towards the end of the island and enjoy the water. The water was a little chilly at first, but felt wonderful after the long walk. We had that end of the island to ourselves for about 30 minutes. navybaby1113 Posted March 2, 2013 Author #141 Share Posted March 2, 2013 I was starting to get thirsty, so we decided it was time to start walking back. We realized at this time that there are no water fountains anywhere on this island to fill up your water bottle. Thankfully it was lunch time, so we went over to the restaurant area on the island. Apparently they don’t serve water there either. I grabbed a cup of lemonade and we decided to just grab a tender back to the ship for lunch. We walked to the tender area and waited about 15 minutes for a tender to show up. When the tender showed up, they escorted a man out of the boat on a stretcher. They loaded him onto one of the safari trucks on the island and took him away. We finally were able to get on the tender and then waited about 30 minutes because people kept straggling on the boat. I think Carnival would benefit from keeping the tenders on a regular schedule at HMC (like every 30 minutes), so you always knew when you would be able to catch on. While we were sitting on the boat, I noticed a water plane taking off. I’m assuming they were picking up the injured passenger and take them to a neighboring island to get to a hospital. Hopefully he is doing okay now. Finally the tender left and we got back to the ship. We took a quick shower and then went up to the lido deck to grab lunch. Today we decided to try out the Blue Iguana Cantina for lunch. We both decided to order a burrito and a taco each. On my burrito I asked for chicken, rice, and cheese. DH got a chicken burrito with on a jalapeno tortilla with cheese, tomatoes, beans, rice, salsa, and sour cream. We both got a pork taco and doctored them up at the condiment bar. Neither of us were huge fans of the burritos. They didn’t have much flavor and the rice was extremely bland (it was supposed to be cilantro lime rice, but it did not taste like it). My DH also wasn’t a huge fan of the taco, but I thought that was pretty tasty. I think both items would have been a little better if we would have eaten them when they were hot instead of carrying them up to the second deck of the lido restaurant. Carnival also needs to serve chips with their burritos! Today was also the day that they had my two favorite desserts at the lido buffet. One is the key lime cheesecake and the other is an almond napoleon. Delicious!
navybaby1113 Posted March 2, 2013 Author #142 Share Posted March 2, 2013 I wasn’t feeling so well, so I decided to go back to the room and take a nap until the Super Bowl. When the Super Bowl started, we decided to find a place to sit and watch it. Both the lido deck and the EA Sports Bar were already packed, so we decided to check out the Victorian Lounge. There were still plenty of seats available, so we grabbed a table right in the middle of the lounge. Since there was no food provided in the Victorian Lounge (there was food provided in the EA Sports Bar), we took turns going up to the lido buffet to grab dinner. I got some jerk pork loin with a baked potato and rolls. This pork loin was so much better than the one they serve in the MDR. Loved it! DH found the football snacks and got spicy chicken tenders and philly cheesesteak. He also got some vanilla cookie cake and strawberry cheesecake. I still wasn’t feeling 100%, so we decided to go back to the room in the 3rd quarter and watch the remainder of the game down there. I ended up falling asleep, but DH stayed up to watch the Ravens win the game, 34-31.
