Luvsnorkeling Posted February 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Since most cove balconies are situated under the deck where the casino, lounges and show room are located, we were just wondering if you can hear a lot of noise in them--especially at night when you're trying to sleep? Also, do the partitions on either side of the balcony on a cove close you off better from neighboring balconies than the partitions do on a regular balcony cabin? We like to sit out at night with our balcony lights off and watch the stars and passing ships, etc. Invariably, someone turns their outside balcony light on in a neighboring cabin and leaves it on all week long. Just wondering if the cove balconies eliminate that problem? Thanks for any and all input!

Unfortunately our only experience with a cove was during Hurricane Sandy. They had to close off our balcony and for the rest of the trip we had to listen to the most awful banging that want on 24/7. I know that was an unusual situation but it was enough that we won't be booking another cove balcony. Edited February 24, 2013 by relic937
wenny101 Posted February 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2013 I was in cove cabin 2256. We never heard a sound and we where right by the elevators..no problem at all with noise.
okwriter Posted February 24, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2013 I've been in cove balconies twice, and I'm going again in April. I've never noticed any noise from above. In fact, I've found them quieter than some other balcony cabins I've had. I've never had an issue with a neighbor's light in any balcony cabin, so I can't address that. greatdanemom Posted February 24, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Our Cove balcony was very quiet and light free. Our only annoyance was the balcony doors slamming in our neighboring cabins.
bertieboop1 Posted February 24, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 24, 2013 also been in Coves twice .....Loved them, 2268 was our last one. I wish every ship had cove balconies!
sandys57 Posted February 24, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 24, 2013 We were in a cove on the Breeze in Dec. I cant remember, for sure, what our cabin number was, but I believe it was like 2242 or close to that. The noise was HORRIBLE!! This was our 13th cruise and the first time ever having an issue with noise. Chairs or kitchen carts or something being dragged across the floor at all hours of the night. However, we had friends in coves, at the other end of the hallway and they had no issue with noise whatsoever. Other than the noise, we loved the cove. I was concerned about being close to the water, but you arent close to the water. No where near as close as I had anticipated. The balcony did stay damp from the mist of the water but that no issue for us. Enjoy your cruise!

Just stay out from under the galley. Also, do the partitions on either side of the balcony on a cove close you off better from neighboring balconies than the partitions do on a regular balcony cabin? CRZCRAZY Posted February 24, 2013 #11 Share Posted February 24, 2013 I had a cove balcony on the Magic T/A and it was the noisiest cabin I've ever had. The seas weren't rough enough to ever require closing off the doors, yet the constant banging of the waves echoed in the cabin. I've never heard noise like that on other ships. Also when I was out on the balcony and looked up all I could see was lifeboats. I felt closed in. Didn't enjoy it, won't get one again unless it's a cruise that we're in port most of the cruise. Doug910 Posted February 24, 2013 #16 Share Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) ...We sailed in a cove balcony on the Breeze in January. We were in 2283, which was starboard, sixth cove balcony from the bow and right off the Atrium elevators. Only heard two sounds all week. An occasional soft "ding" from the elevators at night. The other sound was not the waves hitting the bow of the ship, but the sound of the displaced water landing back into the ocean after hitting the bow. It was a sound we could listen to all week. If that noise bothers you, you can simply close the balcony door and hear nothing. ...We thought the location and the cove balcony were perfect! crusnbee Posted February 24, 2013 #17 Share Posted February 24, 2013 We had a cove balcony on Dream, and we were under the shore excursion desk. No noise from anywhere whatsoever. Mikel1733 Posted February 24, 2013 #19 Share Posted February 24, 2013 We've had 2 Cove Balcony rooms, the most recent 2403 on the Breeze. Both rooms had noise around 11:30pm each night for approximately 30 minutes. Both rooms were below the kitchen. We really didn't notice the noise after the 2nd night. We like the balcony being so close to the water and the fact it is shaded from the sun. Great place to sip on a rum drink and listen to the waves. Luvtoeat Posted February 24, 2013 #20 Share Posted February 24, 2013 I was just going to ask the same question about noise from above as we are thinking about being on the dream in July. From some of the responses, it seems its pot luck regarding noise depending on your location. I would think that being below the galley could be very noisy as I expect the galley would have activity going on most of the day and night. May have to rethink if a cove balcony is the right choice. BabyJacks17 Posted February 24, 2013 #21 Share Posted February 24, 2013 I've had 2 midship cove balconies twice (Room 2330) and never had any issues whatsoever. When it comes to the Dream class it's cove balcony or no cruise at all - LOVE the cove!! Also, the casino is located on the 5th floor so that's one less place you'd have to worry about noise from :)
Luvsnorkeling Posted February 24, 2013 Author #22 Share Posted February 24, 2013 This is all great input, folks! Thanks so much! Starting to get the idea that the location from bow to stern is more important to noise issues than what is above (with the exception of the galley). But since I haven't seen a deck plan where the galley location is identified, how do you find that out? And with one poster saying when you look up all you can see are lifeboats, is it possible to even see the stars at night from a cove balcony? Please keep the comments coming. Learning something new from each of them and sure that others will too.
teamkern Posted February 24, 2013 #23 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Our only annoyance was the balcony doors slamming in our neighboring cabins. We were amazed at the slamming doors as well, seemed to go on and on at times. We did feel like we had noise from below, but not above. We do sleep with a sound machine, which drowns out a lot of noise, but did hear grinding sounds throughout the night...but we would do it again. We loved the privacy, folks in room next to us smoked, which we respect their right to do, and it did not seem as bad as other balconies we have been on. Joaljoe Posted February 25, 2013 #24 Share Posted February 25, 2013 We had a cove balcony on the Dream and the Breeze. We had room 2326 on both ships. We liked that location because it was close to the mid elevators, which took us straight up to Camp Carnival, MDR, Casino and the Marketplace on the Lido deck. We didn't remember hearing any noise on the Dream but this time I did notice some. Nothing major but depending on what time we were in the room, we could here them moving chairs around in the MDR, one night we heard them singing one of the songs during late seating. And on rough water nights I could here the life boats swinging or banging. No one else in my family could hear them though. LOL It's so minor and it would not stop us from booking the Cove balcony in that location again. If you were to look straight up, no, you can't see stars. But if you look out and up you could still see the sky and stars or moon. It's not the same as being on the upper decks course. :)
fanda120608 Posted February 28, 2013 #25 Share Posted February 28, 2013 We had 2325 on the breeze and really only heard two noises all week. We heard a rumbling noise most nights which I guess was from waves crashing against the ship. It was quite loud. Kept me awake so much the first night I got up to call guest services because it sounded like something being dragged around above us lol. Second one was the constant slamming of balcony doors from both of our neighbors. Of course this will happen on any deck. Most people just seem to lack common sense or don't care they are disturbing others by this. I could feel our cabin shake every time they went in or out. :sly: Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
