plc396 Posted June 9, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 9, 2005 Our company is traveling on the Miracle this Sunday. I thought it would be a nice idea to have a scavenger hunt for the kids, there are 6 of them. Nothing to buy, but things they can find on the ship and on shore that will give them something special to remember the trip with. I really need some ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)
floridaboyz Posted June 9, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 9, 2005 Some ideas off the top of my head: 1. Daily capers in a foreign language (should not be two hard, they have them near the pursers desk) 2. Port shopping maps (reminder of where they went) 3. Picture on the aft part of the ship under the registry flag (give them a cheap disposable camera to take pictures with through the cruise; also lets them take pictures for their own memories) 4. Shells from a beach while in port (if going to the beach) 5. Signature of a ship officer (as long as they are not disturbing them) 6. Carnival token from the game room (games don't take quarters) 7. Sugar packet (has the Carnival logo on them) - hey you said nothing to buy!!! Just remind them to be respectful of others while having fun on their treasure hunt. lisaland15 Posted June 9, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 9, 2005 Camp Carnival does a scavenger hunt with the kids, also. One of the items was a red sock. Someone took a white sock and soaked it in the free fruit punch!!!
plc396 Posted June 9, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted June 9, 2005 Floridaboyz, Thanks for the ideas...I had already added "rules" for the game.
serene56 Posted June 9, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 9, 2005 does your hunt last for the majority of the week? Or a few hours? Have the kids find someone who lives in a foreign country. (any crew member will do...
pacerzfan Posted June 9, 2005 #6 Share Posted June 9, 2005 Something I have thought about doing was having our groups kids see how many different countries, they can find crew members or passengers from and just have them sign a paper with their home country and city along with their name. Crew members have always went out of their way to be super nice to my DD's and the other kids that were on our cruises.
qzbean Posted June 9, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 9, 2005 The Purser's Desk will give out free postcards of the ship on request. There are Carnival pens in each cabin. If you go with the disposable camera, have them take pictures of all the different towel animals they see throughout the week. Have them get a picture of Funship Freddie as well. serene56 Posted June 9, 2005 #8 Share Posted June 9, 2005 The Purser's Desk will give out free postcards of the ship on request. No tno more-- you have to buy them now. same with the deck of cards we used to get for free..
kjunea Posted June 9, 2005 #9 Share Posted June 9, 2005 I got a free deck of cards at the purser's desk on the Miracle last month. How about a used bingo card? (They didn't have to buy it. Just go to the lounge after any session and there are loads lying around!)
plc396 Posted June 9, 2005 Author #10 Share Posted June 9, 2005 I want to have the kids do it all week. One of the last things on the list is to show their sunglasses at the end of the cruise for 30 points. I thought maybe then they will keep them all week.:D Thank you for all of your great ideas. bc3536 Posted June 9, 2005 #11 Share Posted June 9, 2005 No tno more-- you have to buy them now. same with the deck of cards we used to get for free.. I was on the Elation 2 weeks ago and we got free postcards and decks of cards. At the casino the cost $1 for a deck but at the purser's desk they were free. You never said what age kids, but here are a few ideas that you might could use. On sea days have them find floating algee, flying fish, you might even give them points for making certain activities, such as ice carving demo, shopping talk ( they usually give free things to kids) Another thought with the camera's would be to have them developed on board the last day or 2nd to last night so you could have points for the pictures that they took. If you go to Sam's or the like you might could even get them 2 camera's so they could get them developed 1/2 way through. Then you could have them take pictures of certain things (someone coming down the slide, smoke coming out of the smoke stack, one of the social directors and/or cruise director, etc..) Codfish Posted June 9, 2005 #14 Share Posted June 9, 2005 I can't believe nobody has mentioned a ship on a stick yet.
Kev and Tam Posted June 10, 2005 #15 Share Posted June 10, 2005 Aren't those a little hard to come by? People BEGGED us for our ships. We actually won five of them (all 4 of us as a team winning a scavenger hunt on the ship) and I won another for a trivia game. That would be a GREAT addition to the scavenger hunt, but maybe a little hard to come by. This is such a great idea for kids and adults to do and I may even take these ideas for our next one! Maybe a couple of things a day. It would give the kids something to look forward to other than Camp Carnival!
Codfish Posted June 10, 2005 #16 Share Posted June 10, 2005 I never thought of anyone begging another pax for their ship. In that case I would stipulate it had to be won by the scaverger hunt participant. It may be a little harder to come by, but it would also encourage the youngsters to participate in activites. serene56 Posted June 10, 2005 #17 Share Posted June 10, 2005 I can't believe nobody has mentioned a ship on a stick yet. Carnival did away with the ship ont he sticks.. damn, too Now we get champagne or/and a gold coin on a rope.
Kev and Tam Posted June 12, 2005 #18 Share Posted June 12, 2005 How could they!???! We were all looking forward to increasing our "24kt plastic ship on a stick" collection!!! We worked hard for those! Who wants a coin on a rope? It doesn't have the same appeal, the same finesse, the same look!:( We are all so sad and dismayed at this appalling display of selfishness! I guess I am just glad to hear it in advance and not have to be disapointed on board, so thank you.
