What happens to unused OBC?

We have quite of bit of OBC for our upcoming cruise on the Navigator. I have a feeling we'll use all of it and more, but just i case I want to make sure that money won't go to waste. I think I read somewhere that you can get your unused On board Credit as cash at the end of the cruise. Is that true?

You should be able to get unused OBC as cash on the last evening of the cruise. The only hang up I can think of is if the OBC is all non-refundable. OBC from Royal, such as OBC from booking on board, or WOW OBC is non-refundable. Even in that case, you can always go to the casino and take out cash against your onboard account. This will cost 3%, but it's better than losing 100% of your remaining OBC.

Just off the Vision this morning - and the answer is what was the source of the credit.

If the source was RCCL no refund, use it or lose it.

If the credit was from a TA, and no part was RCCL related then refundable.

If it was from RCCL credit card points fully refundable.

It does not have to be the last night to get the refundable cash if you have a credit card registered for on board expenditures. I took a couple hundred dollars cash earlier in the cruise and when we left this morning still had $99 which they said the would credit to our registered credit card.

Nice to have too much OBC!!!

I had OBC from my TA (got a card on the second day saying it was courtesy of ******** Travel Agency) but it was marked as nonrefundable. I ended up having guest relations transfer the unused credit to someone else in my cabin the last night.

If you have used a RCI Visa card when checking in, then any refundable OBC credited back to to your account will result in the loss of "double" points.:( For those that elect not to take out any cash during the cruise, then they request that you close out your account the afternoon prior to departure.

Always remember, what you have experienced on one ship doesn't necessarily mean that you will have the same experience on another ship or even on the same ship the next time you cruise.:D

We have some of both--from RCCL from the WOW sale and then most from our RCCL Visa. My only concern is that they will tell us we used our "refundable" OBC first and what's left is non-refundable. But I guess it won't matter if we use it all or if we get it out as cash from the casino. Thanks so much for your help everyone!

We had an used OBC between our first and second (B2B) cruise on the Navigator. But because it was in the form of Bank of America Royal Visa Points we were able to cash out the balance at the end of the first.

Some OBC can not be cashed out unless, as Clarea said, you take out money in the Casino. If you have a $300 credit all you will pay in a fee is $9.00 which is very cheap.

I learned about the casino tip right here at Cruise Critic and I have used it several times in the past.
