We've done both, but have found that when we've done it prior we've gotten onboard and found that the price is lower than what we paid beforehand. They honored the onboard price and did a refund and resold it to us, but we have decided that it is just easier to do it once onboard.

We've paid anywhere from $199-$249 for a 7-day.

Keep in mind, one of the nicest times to go is in the evening. While many are busy around the ship, the hydropool and loungers are usually pretty empty...at least by our experience...and it is a great way to end the day.
