BryceRun Posted September 13, 2013 #351 Share Posted September 13, 2013 Very very easy to figure out if it’s for you: Ask yourself: 1 - Have you cruised before with cabin partner (2 person cabin)? 2 – Did your alcohol consumption on last cruise (for cabin of 2) exceed at least $100/ day? If answers are YES and YES, IT IS FOR YOU!!! If you still drink the same then it will probably save money and you will have the convenience factor. If answer is YES and NO, then the UBP is not for you!! Haven’t cruised before? In a 12 - 16 hour vacation period do you see yourself enjoying / ordering 7 drinks per person? If yes, then order it and don’t worry about it!!

I did factor that in, end of 4 night cruise TOTAL spend on drinks per final invoice was lets say $500. $500 / 4 = $125 per day, get the package. Maybe it broke out likes this, but who cares: Night 1 - $80 for both Night 2 - $160 for both Night 3 - $90 for both Night 4 - $170 for both don't be so hung up on PER day, need to look at AVERAGE. BryceRun Posted September 13, 2013 #354 Share Posted September 13, 2013 I’m going to say something that many of you will think is crazy! I actually think with the drink package my wife and I will maybe / probably drink less!!! How can that be you ask? 1 – I don’t like waiting in long lines for my drinks at crowded bars, so i’ll order two rounds. With UBP only one at a time and maybe longer duration between drinks. 2 – Same thought in casinos / shows waitress are very busy so I’ll order 2 rounds. Now in a comedy show I might only get one service by waitress. 3 – Instead of splitting a bucket poolside will have to get up for each beer. 4 – Instead of automatically ordering a bottle ( ~ 2.5 glasses) of wine at dinner will probably just order 2 glasses. 5 – Can’t order double drinks, will have ask for less soda for taste. 6 – Not worrying about “damn i have to go (or its super late) and I just paid for this drink, hold on a minute while i chug it.” Nope, just leave a drink on the bar that I only took one sip from it doesn’t matter I have the package. I know crazy
Cruising4 Posted September 14, 2013 #355 Share Posted September 14, 2013 What are the "spring break" dates for 2014? We're on the Epic 4/13-4/20 ... Easter week. If it's not offered then I won't have to decide! But, after reading through 18 pages I'm going to treat myself to a mimosa with breakfast everyday. Thanks for the idea ... wouldn't have even crossed my mind.

But you can always call NCL and ask.
mvdude111 Posted September 14, 2013 #357 Share Posted September 14, 2013 Please look at the attached PDF on first page of this thread then honestly come back and try to explain how it limits your alcohol selection. To stick with your beer analogy, much more then BUD my friend. NCL carries approximately 37 beers and ONLY 9 are EXCLUDED. Also well over 80% of on board liquor is included most of that is NOT “bottom” shelf! Just one quick example, sure Grey Goose is NOT included but Kettle and Van Gogh are, equal (if not better) quality vodkas. They just aren’t as poplar with rappers. Wild Turkey 101, Dewers 12yr,Goslings black seal, Bacardi 8, the Kraken are ALL INCLUDED. Definitely not “bottom” shelf. Not limiting and if it is then the entire inventory, UBP or not, is limiting. We purchased the UBP on the Gem in November 2013, and we are martini drinkers. We don't like Grey Goose anyway, and had not problem with Kettle One or Stoli up martinis. The only criticism I have is that specialty coffees, i.e. cappuccino are not included. I admit, the Celebrity Premium Drink package includes everything, and is the best. However, the NCL UBP is okay and we plan to purchase it again. The wine selection is okay, and the things we like are included. In the November 2013 cruise we were just a little ahead, so it may be a wash anyway. There is something to be said in having the freedom in using the card. You already know what you paid, so you are not mentally calculating where you stand each time you order a drink. Cheers! Kevin

nadalina Posted September 16, 2013 #361 Share Posted September 16, 2013 We are going on the Jewel in early November. While I have found the UBP on NCL's website, when I bring up my specific cruise, it is not listed under the options to purchase. I understand that I may need to call NCL if I want to purchase in advance, but can anyone confirm that it is, indeed, available on all ships? Thank you. We are sailing on the Jewel in December and all I had to do was call NCL and purchase the UBP over the phone. Since I haven't made it to final payment yet, they gave me the option of just adding it to my final payment or paying it right then.
nadalina Posted September 16, 2013 #366 Share Posted September 16, 2013 Thank you, Jim and Monalis. We tried the premium beverage package on the Celebrity Solstice a couple of years ago and loved having it. It was just so simple and stress-free..... not being concerned about how much we were spending, plus we could each have the type of wine we wanted with dinner and not have to compromise with a bottle of either red OR white and having leftovers. We definitely don't consider ourselves to be heavy drinkers, but a mimosa/bloody mary or two for brunch, a couple of mojitos mid-afternoon, a couple of cocktails before dinner, a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, and then a Bailey's or Amaretto or two after dinner, that's 8-10 drinks per day. Yes, of course, that's much more than we drink at home every day, but on a cruise it's the norm for us and I've never felt the least bit even slightly inebriated. To each, his own, though. Just wish it included bottled water, but I'm sure they have a package for that, too.

jenny105 Posted September 16, 2013 #368 Share Posted September 16, 2013 It seems like it all depends on which bartender you get! I think the training for UBP needs to be a little better but if someone tells you a drink isn't included, try going to someone else LOL.

Single spirits less than the $8.50 (before tip/vat). Thank you for purchasing Norwegian’s Ultimate Beverage Package. Your package includes a variety of spirits and cocktails that are valued at $8.50 or less, draft beer $5.95 and under, bottled beer $5.50 and under, glasses of wine under $10 and unlimited fountain soda and juices at all bars, lounges, restaurants and the Great Stirrup Cay. I've done the UBP twice now, both times drinking at least a $100 more, 3rd time next month for the TA! jenny105 Posted September 17, 2013 #370 Share Posted September 17, 2013 I know what it says it includes but based on what I've been reading it seems that some bartenders are saying 'sure this martini/mixed drink is included' while others are saying no it's not. I just plan on ordering drinks under the listed prices.
Marylandhorselover Posted September 18, 2013 #371 Share Posted September 18, 2013 I have that same question..... I will be on a 11 night cruise. how many of that is actually charged since we dont get on until 4 p.m the first day?

You pay all days except departure day (when you leave the ship) , so 11 night cruise is 12 days, you pay 11! Even if you board at 4PM. Most drinks are taken in the evening .. In fact, just being friendly to the bartenders will result in over-pouring, if anything. Edited September 18, 2013 by triptolemus
