My husband and I are trying to decide between taking Godfrey tours or taking a taxi/ferry to Trunk Bay. Any help? We have heard good and bad things about Trunk Bay, anyone been there recently and can comment on the snorkeling? Thanks for all of your help!!!

What you might want to do is find out how many cruise ships will be in Charlotte Amalie the same day that you are there by going to:

I can cite my own experience with this as an example: the first time I went to Trunk Bay was in January 2003. There were at LEAST three ships in town and Trunk Bay was crowded and not enjoyable to me at all. It was difficult to find a place to put down your towel and the main snorkeling area was jammed full of people. The life guard was constantly yelling through a megaphone at folks to not stand on or touch the coral. It was definitely not a peaceful, idyllic beach experience.

I returned there in July 2003. There was only one ship in town and Trunk Bay was much more enjoyable. It really is a gorgeous beach and worth a trip. The underwater snorkeling trail is awesome.

I would say that if there will ba a lot of ships in town, try the Godfrey tour and then ask him to recommend which beach to go to. Or, if you have your heart set on St. John, you might check out one of the other beaches there.

We did Godfrey... THis year we're going to Trunk Bay.

If you want snorkeling go to TRunk Bay. The snorkeling at Trunk Bay is awesome.

If you want a little bit of everything do Godfrey. He gives you a great tour of the island, and drops you off at the beach for 2 hours.

If you decide on Trunk Bay, go early - you'll beat all the cruise ship tours and have the place relatively to yourself for a few hours. When it gets crowded, that's the time to go back to Charlotte Amalie and do your shopping.

"These moments we’re left with - may you always remember
These moments are shared, by few
And those harbor lights, lord they’re coming into view
We’ll bid our farewells much too soon
So drink it up, this one’s for you -
Honey, it’s been a lovely cruise."
