Disembarkation

Has been a few years since our last Disney cruise and can't remember the disemarkation procedure on Disney. On Princess today, we had to wait for 2 hours in a common area until our color/number was called before we could get off the ship. Just don't remember it being such an ordeal on Disney. Could someone remind me how it is done on Disney?

There is no waiting on DCL, at least when they dock in Port Canaveral (Port of LA is still new and haven't read many reports yet). When the ship is cleared by customs (usually around 7:30), you are free to disembark at your leisure. If you have early seating, you are usually just finishing up breakfast when the ship gets cleared, late seating doesnt' start until 8AM.

The disembarcation procedure for the May Panama Canal cruise was a color-coded mess. Everyone lined up to get off the ship...line wound around forever, wheelchairs dead-ending into stairs, people ignoring a subtle line split ...one for residents and one for foreign passport holders...Then a huge color-coded wait in the warehouse...not enough porters...very UN-Disney. One official heard to admonish one disabled passenger that it was always recommended that disabled passengers NOT travel alone because of luggage problems....huh? An F.

If you have the early seating at dinner you are supposed to go to breakfast for the early seating the day you disembark. When finished you wait in the lobby until the doors open. Once opened you're off to the baggage claim area where you bags are in a color coded area. the color matches the color of the tags they left in your room the night before to place on your bags. After collecting your bags you wait in line to exit thru customs. Both time we found this to be very quick - steady. Once out of the building the buses are there & several airlines are also there so you can check in for your flight home. They take the bags & your onto the bus (if you have bought a transfer).

If you have the later dinner seating then you go to the later breakfast seating & then follow the same process.

We've never cruise with anyone else but DCL so we have nothing to compare it to but we find it very smooth way to end a great trip!
