Just have to clear the head and vent

I have the cruise blues, and let me tell you why.

The family booked the Carnival Triumph ES for a spring cruise 2013. Chose our room, our dining, and was a platinum cruise; everything was set. February 2013 came and we knew the cruise we planned was not going to happen. Due to available vacation time, we were able to book another, for the same date without additional payment. Problem is the anticipation, thrill, wonder; the overall “you’ll be vacation” is not in my body.

The positives are: We are platinum, (I cannot wait for the free laundry!); we are on a Carnival class of ship I love, and we are not going to Cozumel for the 10th time.

Negatives: to not have additional payment, had to let Carnival choose my room for me, not thrilled about the room assignment; wait listed for our requested dining; and do not care for the ports of call.

I keep telling myself, “You’ll be on vacation, on a class of ship you enjoy, stop being picky”, but I still have the negative feeling about it I do not understand.

It is not the resent mechanical problems either. I have had this feeling for about 2 weeks now. I think it is because we didn’t pick our room and we are waitlisted for dining. A new adventure I have no control over.

Well, that’s my vent. Thanks for listening.

Try to stay positive. I think sometimes, as a cruise junkie, maybe we love the planning so much that when it actually gets here..there is a little let down. Our first cruise was an assigned room and it worked out great. It can be a little disheartening to hear all the bad press...but it's your vacation...try to enjoy yourselves.

The press doesnt bother me. Thanks for the perk up. Better then coffee

Some of the best times happen when we are a little skeptical - in my opinion your POSITIVES outweigh your negatives!!!! I think you are going to have a fantastic time!!!

I LOVE THE LAUNDRY PERK A LOT!!!!! ENJOY!:)

I know I will love it as well. Guess I'll have to hit the twister slide a few times before departure. That will get the humdrums out of my system.:D

You should post a message about this on John Healds Facebook page. He is really very helpful. At the least, he may be able to help you get an upgrade, and your dining confirmed. Also, go out and buy yourself something to wear on the cruise, a nice accessory or something. You would be surprised how that will get you back on the "excitement" side of planning your trip! It will work out, hun. I just know it!

My excitement about a cruise always seems to deflate in the last weeks. And that's without having to wrangle with a completely changed itinerary like you're going through at the last minute. That must suck.

You might try giving yourself an assignment to discover one fun new thing for each port -- a bonus, an experience you haven't had before, something different to explore. And don't allow yourself to linger on the cruise and itinerary that you lost.

There's very compelling evidence that redirecting your thoughts from negative things to positive things will boost your happiness (and apparently it can improve your physical health). It sound Polyanna-ish, I know.

Unfortunately, a lot of Carnival cruisers have been disappointed recently. My heart goes out to all those who plan their vacations for a year in advance and work hard to make everything perfect, and then something happens which is totally out of their control. You have every right to be blue. My fingers are crossed for a wonderful cruising experience for you!!! I hope you have a fabulous cruise and love every minute of it!!!

This!!!!!

Anything you haven't done before - I don't know - if you don't normally go to the casino, give yourself a $50- $100 dollar pot and learn the strategy for blackjack. If you normally don't use the library plan a board game afternoon with all those stupid old games they have like connect 4. If you've never done a spa service or beach massage try one of those. I guess I'm a planner - so I try to focus on what I can plan.

Like Bobblefrog, I, too, am a planner. In fact, I have already started planning out my cruises for the next 2 years (including shore excursions that I'm interested in). I can understand how something like this can be a little frustrating for you. However, please try to stay optimistic. I have a feeling that when you arrive at the port and are boarding the ship, things will begin to turn around for you! Good luck and I hope you enjoy your cruise! :D

Hello my fellow Louisianian......

Hakuna Mata-ta.....means no worries.....smile a lot and be positive and say to yourself that you are going to have the time of your life....NO MATTER WHAT!!!!

As far as dining time, this has always worked for us: email the Matri'De(sp?) and explain briefly and I am almost positive He will make it happen.

Then, when you have received that great dining time, send him an email back with many thanks....(He will appreciate this)

Now, GEAUX Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D

These are great suggestions. I was thinking about pampering myself in the spa. Never done that before.

I thought about emailing the Matre'd, but then the little voice inside tells me not to, go with it, it's not that big of a deal.

Thanks for the suggestion my fellow Louisianian.

I kind of mentioned it on his FB page, but I do not give out personal information, ie: cruise date, room number, ship. I am not comfortable posting this type of information for the public to see. I did send an "Ask John", note on his blog, but he is probably so far behind on them, it will be after the cruise before anyone sees it.

I know I will have good time, just probably not as good as my previous cruises. I am happy about free laundry!!!
