Post cruise beach stay from Singapore

Recommended Posts

We are sailing out of Singapore in November and are looking for advice on a post-cruise stay.

We understand that there is the potential for a lot of rain in Singapore in November, so when we disembark the ship we thought we would fly to a nice beach destination for 4 to 5 nights (where we will hopefully have less of a chance for rain).

We love to snorkel and are looking for some suggestions on where to go for a laid-back beach vacation where we can enjoy the underwater wildlife and relax before we have to head home to face a cold Chicago winter.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I would just stay in Singapore and enjoy this marvelous city. We stayed at the Park Hotel Clarke Quay for 6 nights before our cruise out of Singapore.

Your best bet might be Phuket. The west coast rainy season ends in October wheras everywhere east of Singapore it will be rainy season. Phuket also has some nice snorkeling nearby. Langkawi in Malayasia would also fit the bill. Both are easily reachable by air from Singapore.

Of course if you have more time, and money nothing beats the Maldives.

Yes, we did have an outstanding stay. I also was pretty lucky at the 2 casinos and left Singapore with more money than I came with. We will come back in the next year or two.

Awesome!

I can tell you for a fact that I have never stepped into the 2 casinos. Locals have to pay a fee just to enter. :):)

Not that I am into gambling, but at least I don't have to pay an entrance fee into casino Royale. Lol.

Yes, the fee is $100 SG for locals to enter the casinos. This allows entry for a 24 hour period. If you overstay the 24 hours, you would have to pay another $100 SG. I would stay away also.

We saw some of Singapore before and after our recent cruise. We saw Phuket and Langkawi on our cruise and they are lovely. I'd like to add Ko Lanta (fly direct to Krabi and transfer to Lanta) to the list--we loved it. There is more to do in Phuket, but Lanta was great for relaxing. The snorkeling is pretty similar to Phuket (the trips hit many of the same places).

You're not picking from bad options, so I think you'll have a great trip no matter what you pick.

We first considered this but when we read that they usually get a lot of rain at that time we decided we wanted to go somewhere with a better chance of sunshine.

Thank you for the suggestion as we might consider a pre-cruise visit as well.

Phuket is definitely on our short list, thanks for suggestion. Do you have any hotel recommendations?

We would LOVE to visit the Maldives, but need to save that for another trip.

Since you are already in Singapore, why leave so soon?

Spend more time here. Plenty to see and do. The rain isn't that bad.

What would you like to see ?

We really want to enjoy some sunshine before we head back home to a cold winter.

Krabi is another place that we have read about that sounds wonderful, thanks for the suggestion. Do you have a recommendation for a hotel stay for Ko Lanta?

Here is my Tripadvisor review of the Crown Lanta: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g303905-d1655448-Reviews-Crown_Lanta_Resort_Spa-Ko_Lanta_Krabi_Province.html

I highly recommend it!

I should also mention that it's really easy to get from Lanta to Phuket by ferry or speedboat (you may have to stop in Phi Phi, which isn't a bad day trip), if you're interested in checking out both.

That looks like a cool resort. Rooms are only $72 US per night. Worth looking into for a cheap holiday.
