Has anyone successfully used Skype to make calls using the onboard wifi?

I haven't tried, but wouldn't do so as I think I'd be setting myself up to fail! I think there would be issues re bandwith / speed etc and I don't think it would work satisfactorily. And if more than one person tried I think the whole system would freeze. Sadly internet connections at sea are a LONG way from those to which we have become accustomed on land. Although it can be pretty ropey in some parts here!

I just use my phone onboard which connects to the cellular at sea system.no problems there.

 

There is always the phone in your suite which works fine.

I was thinking about making face to face calls on Skype, which I don't think would work, but I can't see much advantage of using it for voice calls either.

Yes,you can't beat a proper telephone if you just want to talk.
