Wife8 Posted April 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2013 We are 3 women booked and fully paid for an ocean view room on the Freedom 5/18/13 cruise. One of us may not be able to go due to her 97yo mothers ill health. We took insurance thru Carnival. If she just doesn't show and the 2 of us just give her 1/3 of the total charges, is that OK? Or should she cancel thru Carnival and request insurance reimbursement? And if she does that will they reimburse her at the reduced third person rate or at one third of what we all paid? Thanks in advance for your help.
poptart Posted April 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2013 1st and 2nd passenger pay more than 3rd or 4th in a cabin. So if ya'll divided the total cabin fare by 3, and she gets a refund you will each have to pay more. Call carnival or your TA.

Hoping she got pre exisiting conditions if this is for an elderly parent. Since the cruise is so close-- you want to do that BEFORE the 7 days before the cruise. she will probably get reduced the 3rd party fare
Maraprince Posted April 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 8, 2013 First 2 passengers paid the full rate. Third and fourth pay at a lower supplement rate -- i.e., either $150 or $250. If you shared everything 3 ways, your friend who cancelled would owe each of you additional monies if she files an insurance claim based on a medical reason and gets back either the $150 or $250 she paid. I would assume that you all paid an equal 1/3 for the cruise. The insurance would only reimburse her for the actual loss which is the difference between the 3 person booking and a 2 person booking (the reduced 3rd fare amount). If you feel it is fair to reimburse her the original cost, you and the other woman can make up the difference between the 1/3 cost and the 3rd passenger insurance reimbursement.
