Easter on Majesty

Recommended Posts

I have finally gotten around to writing a review about our cruise on Majesty. My wife and I sailed with friends over the Easter period and as an opening statement, “we had a great time”.

Starting on deck 11 we never had a problem getting sun beds although some people were holding the chairs with towels for lengthy periods. I did notice that on our day at sea naughty boy tags were being tied to chairs that were left unattended with towels for over 45 minutes.

On deck 10, we didn’t have a problem without sunbeds. We thought it was better to get more seats available in the given areas than if sun beds had of been used. The piazza san marco buffet was ok we didn’t use it very often, mainly burgers etc but the hot dogs were to die for. The 2 chefs corners were also very good, different themes on different days ranging from pittas stuffed with chicken and pork to tacos with all the Mexican trimmings. The café Royal was really good, plenty of choice (and I am really finicky) and HOT. Great place to go after the shows when a great and varied supper spread was put on, curry of one form or another most nights plus of course the hot dogs. The pools and Jacuzzi’s were adequate and fit for purpose for a ship of Majestys size.

The royal observatory on deck 9 was a great bar to chill out in the pianist and violinist are exceptional.

Deck 6 housed the Jubilee lounge, I would agree that it isn’t as good as Destinys show room, however we were still entertained superbly. The group Muzik are very good and the show singers and dancers are superb and deserve to be congratulated on the great job they do. The 2 professional dancers are also deserving of praise. The polo bar is very relaxing and when Muzik are not in the Jubilee they perform in there. We only went through the casino to get from one place to another but people always seemed to be having a good time in there.

On deck 5 we always ate in the seven seas restaurant so I cannot comment on the four seasons or the bistro. Great food and great service in this restaurant. If you get the chance go to the bottom of the restaurant at the stern and find one of the tables being served by Dodi and Geny. These guys are brilliant and looked after our every need. We found all the staff in the reception area to be helpful and friendly at all times. The Rendezvous bar was nice to relax in after a show and the piano singer wasn’t too loud which allowed you to chat easily. We never used the fireworks as quizs and karaoke aren’t for us. Nothing wrong with quizs or karaoke just not what we do. People we spoke to who did use it loved it

Our cabin was number 432 and was an outside plus, if you are going to sail on Majesty a plus cabin is a must. We again had a great pair of stewards who looked after us. The cabins were roomy enough for the two of us and the wardrobe space was brilliant (this cabin is a four berth although there were only two of us). To put people’s minds at rest with respect to cabin windows ours was brand new as was our friends in 430. We also saw two more being fitted in 428 and 426 while we were away.

All in all this is not a brand new American all singing and dancing cruise ship or a top of the range ship but it doesn’t profess to being one either. I don’t believe that you can get a better atmosphere of both passengers and crew than on a Thomson ship. If you have already booked look forward to it, you will have a great time. If you are considering booking Majesty then go for it, you will have a great time.

Great review of Majesty. Most reviews are good now, except for 2 or 3 that were for the 1st March cruise which had to stay 3 days in Gran Canaria due to rough seas around Madeira. I think this helped paint a negative picture and people were looking for faults to report. We had a very good holiday despite this. So much so, that I am going on Majesty again with two friends in 3 days. My wish is that we get to Madeira this time and that it is not raining! The weather forecast, however, does not look promising. :(

A great review. Thanks for the info about the windows. We had 426 in February and it was misty. We really loved the position of the cabin, near the lifts and very quiet, so would book that area again now we know the windows have been fixed :)

Sailaway. Can you add this information to the your cabin reviews please? :)

We were very lucky at Madiera, firstly we had great weather and secondly Majesty moored the opposite side of the harbour to normal so that we were virtually on the main drag. Did the usual cable car and sledges, we had done them before but our friends hadnt. We walked back to the town at the end of the ride, big mistake, enjoyable at the time but the next day our calves were killing us. Love the bars on the front where the panpipe group play, look out for the Beatles boat in the same area. Most of all have a great time.

Pleased you enjoyed your time on the Majesty so much :)

I fear I am beginning to sound like Kirk

Way to go yet Little Nell! :D:D Speaking of which, we haven't heard anything from him since that thread on HAL. I hope he's not been totally deflated by that - he wasn't doing any harm!

I too am pleased you had a good time eastendbaggie.

Thank you for that extra information and your best wishes. I actually saw Majesty berthed in that position on the Funchal web cam. It would save a lot of walking for those who find it difficult or tiring to walk a long way.

Let's hope it docks in the same place next week then Jackie :)

Cheers, Kruzseeka :)

I too found Kirk harmless.

Incidentally, I made exactly the same mistake as you.

Thanks, Linda, had no idea that a baggie was a West Ham fan

Correction, West Brom.... just noticed he is from the Midlands.

Hi Kruzseeka,

I think you will find he's eaststandbaggie :D:D

I assume he's a WBA fan and stands in the east stand?

Thanks for clearing that up Linda,

I must admit I was wondering about the name , but having no knowledge of football whatsoever, would never have work it out.

Still I'm glad you enjoyed your cruise....wherever you come from! :D

I have checked the weather forecasts for each port and none are expecting rain but there seems to be a lot of cloud cover. Just been with friends who reckon the temperature even in the north of England is going to be 22C next week. Hope that means I don't miss Summer 2013. Lol.
