Dive centers in Italy. Please suggest!!!

We are about to book our first cruise. It will be Italy, probably in September. I’m going with my husband and a daughter of 3. I have to explain – I’m not a diver and I don’t know much about it, but my husband is a very good diver and it is his passion. I want to make a surprise for him and give him a chance to go diving before we take a cruise (or may be just after). Question. Are there any good dive centers there? I mean in Italy, probably near Venice or other ports visited by cruise ships. I need not just a dive center; I need a really good place with excellent reputation. I have to be sure that it will be absolutely safe. Please suggest! And thank you in advance!
