I've read mention of a sailaway party. What is that and is it different from the CC Meet & Mingle?

It's an informal gathering of the folks on your Roll Call to meet & greet while having some alcoholic beverages. Usually held up on the Sunset Bar or Oceanview Bar areas, depending on the ship. Some folks volunteer to bring nametags.

The CC Meet & Mingle is more formal with some of the ship's officers, the cruise director, some pastry refreshments, yada, yada, yada.

I thought the Sailaway party is the one the cruise line has on the deck.

On other trips we've done (non-Celebrity) there's usually a Sailaway party on the pool deck with a band playing.

On Disney they do a countdown and blow the horn @ 0 & you start moving.

On Princess they had several members of the Cruise Director staff & gave away prizes during the Sailaway. No countdown, but they were trying to get everyone dancing and in the cruise spirit.

Do they not do something like that on Celebrity?

Yes, the ship has one on the pool deck, but we never attend. We enjoy meeting with and imbibing with all the folks we've never met, but have talked with on the Roll Call, and the ones we've cruised with in the past.

Thanks for the clarification, Wino-o.

As others have said it is a band playing by the pool. Each Crusie line does it a little different. Thse first cruise that I was ever on was on Carnival. The CD was the Emcee and they were givning away prizes. One was to the first person to jump into the pool. Couldn't believe the amount of people diving in fully dressed to get a free drink. Basically it is just a opportunity for the cruise line to sell plenty of drinks, it is like New Years eve where everyone wants or needs to have a drink in their hand as the cruise is finally getting started they have been dreaming about being on board with a drink for months.

Some times the sail away is when you are getting ready for dinner so you just watch from your balcony if you have one.

If leaving from NY you want to be on the top deck as you pass under the bridge.

No matter where you are it is a great time.
