We are renting a Jeep in Gr Cayman to explore the Island and go to Rum point for the day... Avis told us to call them when we got off the ship and they'd pick us up ... do they have pay phones right there at the dock ?????

thanks for your help

Laurie,

I think Avis customers go to the blue iguana bar a few blocks from the pier and call and wait for a shuttle pick up.

Next week we are going to GC and trying caymanautorentals.com.ky, a local agency whose cars are only a few blocks from the pier.

I will let you know how it works out and will post our experience under the cayman board. Thanks. Jenn

Laurie,

When you get off the tender at the pier, start walking up the street to the right ( you will have to cross the street at some point), the Blue Iguana Gift Shop (it's not a bar) is about 3-4 short blocks up from the pier. Very easy to find, there is a big sign. Go into the Blue Iguana and tell them that you are there for Avis. They will send the van to pick you up. Takes maybe 10 mins for Avis to get to the gift shop. The walk from the pier to Blue Iguana is maybe 5 mins.

Cayman Auto Rentals will do you well! I am a personal friend of the owner and they are good, honest people with great rental cars...also they are closer to the pier than anyone else.

As far as payphones go, Cable & Wireless has a shop just as you get off the tender that has payphones for use.

Laurie, Blue Iguana will call Avis for free, there is no need to use a payphone. Avis is expecting the call from the Blue Iguana, so there won't be any confusion about where you are located at the pier. The shuttle picks you up right in front of the Blue Iguana.
