Yet another, Is my Rome itinerary too ambitious thread

I think I read this before too. If it appears that the shuttle is going to take entirely too long to fill and/or go, do I remember correctly that it's about a 10 minute walk to the station?

From the shuttle to the train station it's less than a half mile, but I think you're asking how far is the ship from the station. That will depend upon the cruise line, but my trips out of Civi have been at the very last pier. If you were to walk all the way to the train station I'd think its somewhere between 1.5 to 2 miles (at a minimum). I did walk it once, and it really isn't sit up for walking. Since then I've seen a few messages walking isn't allowed -- that I would question as about half way is the marina and there can be a lot individuals coming to/from their boats. IMO you'd be better off waiting for the shuttle to fill than walking all the way.

What is the port after Civi in your itinerary? Some people plan in advance to spend the night in Rome and meet up with the ship the next day if they can take the train to it. (clear it with the cruise line first and bring your passports because you'll need them to check into a hotel.)

I found a Nov. 16, 2011 thread posted by VirtualRain.

"me Review - How we covered all of Rome in a day on our own"

I'm not sure if the following will work, as I've never inserted a website but here goes:

At the bottom of my printed page it says: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/printthread.php?t=1518706

There's a great deal of information that may help the OP.

Enjoy your cruise.

If the shuttle bus is already there it would probably be worth waiting for it to fill up as it can be a long walk from the more distant piers. Frustrating to wait but quicker in the end. The time we walked there was no sign of the bus. I've not heard that walking isn't allowed. It was more of a cruise port than the usual commercial docks
