8 hours in Nassau

Currently looking at a cruise in which we arrive in Nassau on Dec 31 at 1:00 pm and leaving at 9:00 pm on Serenade of the Seas. Any ideas of what we can do to make the most of our time? There will be DH, myself and two DD ages 19 and 17. We are fairly active and enjoy sightseeing, shopping, food, and beaches. There are quite a few ships in port that day. Being New Year's Eve will things be open? I am considering one of the Segway tours but not sure if that is the best use of our time. None of us have been to the Bahamas before. Thanks for any suggestions.

Some things will either be closed, or close early. New Years Day is Junkanoo. It starts after midnight and goes into the mid morning. The town will be set up with bleachers, so some areas are not accessible.

Keep in mind that the sun goes down early. By 4:30 is near dark. So if you intend on getting in some beach time, do it early. Shops will close by 5. Some restaurants will be closed in preparation for the celebration.

Seqway may be a good tour for you, since it's outside of town and shouldn't be affected by bleachers.

January can also be cool, depend on the weather.. We've had some very nice weather for the holidays, and also some very cold ones as well.
